Kongou-class Special Attack

On Kai Ni B/C, the Kongou-class gains a special attack called "Night Assault":

• Activation requirements
• Multiplier
• Cost
• Trigger Rate
• Voiceline

• A Kongou-class Kai Ni B/C must be flagship.
  • Flagship of the 2nd fleet in combined fleets.
• Another "Touch Helper" must be in the 2nd position.
• Both must not be more than lightly damaged (小破).
• It must be a Night Battle.

• There must be 5 or more surface ships in the fleet.
  • There must be no more than 1 submarine in 6-ship fleets. In 7-ship fleets, only 2 submarines are allowed.
  • There must be no more than 1 surface ship in the fleet sunk or evacuated via FCF
    during a sortie, making the remaining total < 5. Only ships in the escort fleet are counted for combined ones.

• In single fleet, Line Ahead or Echelon need to be selected.
• In a combined fleet, Cruising Formation 2 or Cruising Formation 4 need to be selected.
  • In a combined fleet, it can only be triggered in the Escort fleet.

Despite several devs' announcements, other equipment surch as the 35.6cm Twin Gun Mount Kai 2 and "advance Radars" do not provide any bonus to the touch [2].

• The modifiers are pre-cap.
• There is also an Accuracy bonus of 1.35~1.4 [3].

• The attack will consume extra ammo from both participating battleships when triggered. The total ammo consumption will be x1.2 of the original ammo consumption of those ships when the attack is triggered, hence:
  • If it is triggered in a night battle in a normal node, it costs 6 % extra ammo.
  • If it is triggered in a night battle node, it costs 2 % extra ammo.

The Night Assault can be:

• Activated in the same battle as another separate special attack.
• Activated twice per sortie, during night battle only:

Trivia

General Information

• She is named after Mount Kirishima.
• She was launched on the 1st of December 1913.
• Sank following the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal on 15 November 1942 by the USS Washington.

Update History

• She was part of the original game's launch when the game was released on the 23rd of April 2013.
• She got her Kai Ni on the 28th of March 2014.
• She got her Kai Ni C on the 24th of September 2024.

Misc

• Her wreck was discovered and photographed in 1992 by Dr. Robert Ballard, the same man who discovered the RMS Titanic, Bismarck, Ayanami and Yuudachi.
• Though a "glasses character", many fanart choose to depict her as a bespectacled brawler, tagged under "マイクチェックの時間だオラァ! " ("It's mic-check time, dammit!") in pixiv. This is a nod towards her performance in the aforementioned Battle of Guadalcanal, where she gave the newly built USS South Dakota "a hard whack", taking out the much younger battleship's fire control systems and communications.
  • Her exceptional firepower (for a non-Yamato ship) after her second remodel also nods to this brutal side of her. Fanart often chooses to depict her as a Yakuza leader, tagged under "霧島組" on pixiv on account of her character-type of an "Intellectual Gangster".
• She appeared in the first Kancolle Drama CD, also dubbed One Nao show, along with other characters in a mini skit.
