General Information

• Her nickname, "Shion", is an alternate reading of "400". 4 = "Shi"; 00 = "On".
• She was launched on the 18th of January 1944.
• Surrendered on the 27th of August 1945 and sunk as target on the 4th of June 1946.
• Wreck located on the 1st of August 2013 southwest of Oahu, Hawaii in 557 m (1826 ft) of water. Her hull is missing fifty feet of the bow and shows signs of heavy implosion damage. The superstructure is missing, having apparently detached from the hull during her final descent to the ocean floor.
