Is a "Light Aircraft Carrier" (CVL), despite being designated in the game as a:
- "Fleet Carrier" (航空母艦) at Kai Ni,
- "Power Projection Carrier" (戦力投射母艦) at Kai Ni Sen,
- This is reflected in her combat capabilities and equipability exceptions.
Houshou Kai Ni/Sen's ship class in-game is the Houshou-class, but is displayed as "Kai Houshou-class" on her Library page.
Gameplay Notes

- Able to perform Opening ASW, as other CVL cannot reach enough ASW to trigger them.

- She was launched on the 13th of November 1921.
- Scrapped beginning on the 2nd of September 1946.
- Update History
- She was part of the original game's launch when the game was released on the 23rd of April 2013.
- She got her Kai Ni/Sen on the 6th of December 2022.
- Misc
- Survived World War II.
- Due to her comments regarding opening a little store with the admiral, JP players often refer to her as おかみさん (Okami-san, lit. "boss lady" or the female owner of a typical Japanese store).
- Her arrows have orange-yellow fletching as opposed to the white and green arrow fletching of other carriers, this is a reference to her role as a training carrier as the IJN painted its training aircraft a bright yellow or orange
- She was the first purpose-built aircraft carrier to be launched. This, combined with her manner of speaking, has led her to be characterized as the mother of the other carriers.
- The original Houshou appeared in the animated movie "The Wind Rises", the aircraft carrier visited by Horikoshi Jiro and his supervisor Kurokawa. Nagato, with the serpentine funnel unique to her class, was shown as well, albeit briefly.
