She is named after the Nagara River.
She was launched on the 25th of April 1922.
She was sunk on the 7th of August 1944, torpedoed by submarine USS Croaker (SS-246) off Amakusa Islands, East China Sea 32°09′N 129°53′E.
The Light Cruiser Nagara Memorial Museum is located at 牛深町 Ushibuka-cho, Kyushu.
