Is a "Standard Aircraft Carrier" (CV), despite being designated in the game as a:
- "Fleet Carrier" (航空母艦) at Kai Ni,
- "Night Operations Aircraft Carrier" (夜間作戦航空母艦) at Kai Ni E,
- "Modernized Aircraft Carrier" (近代化航空母艦) at Kai Ni Go,
- This is reflected in her combat capabilities and equipability exceptions.
Kaga Kai Ni/E/Go's ship class in-game is the Kaga-class, but is displayed as "Kai Kaga-class" on her Library page.
Gameplay Notes
Standard Aircraft Carriers (CV) notably utilize 
Dive Bombers, 
Torpedo Bombers, 
Fighters, required to take part in both Aerial Combat and regular Combat, with their "plane slot" 
stat being the most important. They:
- Must equip / bombers to be able to carry any attack.
- Cannot attack during Night Battle without the right equipment.
Night Carriers (CVN) are carriers capable of Carrier Night Air Attacks without needing a 
NOAP
.
Special Mechanics
- Can convert between Kai Ni, Kai Ni E, and Kai Ni Go remodels.
- If she is ASW modded at Kai Ni Go and then converted back to Kai Ni/E, Kaga will keep the ASW modding.
- She still loses the ability to attack submarines on those forms.
- If she is ASW modded at Kai Ni Go and then converted back to Kai Ni/E, Kaga will keep the ASW modding.

Trivia
- General Information
- She is named after Kaga Province, modern-day Ishikawa Prefecture.
- She was launched on the 17th of November 1921.
- Scuttled after being heavily damaged by a US air attack at the Battle of Midway, on the 4th of June 1942.
- Wreck located by RV Petrel on the 18th of October 2019. She sits upright at a depth of around 5400 m (18 000 ft) and is heavily damaged, with most of her superstructure and flight deck missing.
- Update History
- She was part of the original game's launch when the game was released on the 23rd of April 2013.
- She got her Kai Ni on the 27th of August 2020.
- Misc
- Originally designed as a Tosa-class Battleship, she was converted into a carrier after the signing of the Washington Naval Treaty in 1921.
- In the 4koma, she is often portrayed as irrationally protective of Akagi from the destroyers that historically scuttled her (who were also their escorts). Historically, all four CarDiv1 and CarDiv2 carriers (Akagi, Hiryuu, Souryuu, and herself) were scuttled in the Battle of Midway by Japanese destroyers' torpedoes after being heavily damaged by air attacks. During WW2, scuttling (intentional allied sinking to prevent capture) was very common, and the IJN rarely took prisoners or allowed themselves to be POWs.
- In the 4koma, she gives off excessive levels of body heat, which she can be very sensitive about. This is a reflection of one of the historic Kaga's exhaust layouts overheating the flight deck and causing the rear crew quarters to be nearly uninhabitable.
- Beginning in the 1910s, nations all over the world experimented with ship designs & layouts culminating in the aircraft carrier. Issues such as exhaust layout, aircraft elevators, command bridges, ship weaponry, and so forth vastly differed between classes and even within classes.
- She is the official mascot of the JS Kaga of the JMSDF. Her Kai Ni Go remodel is based on the JS Kaga.
- One of C2's official race cars is dubbed the Kaga 184 or Kaga 86 by fans and it competes regularly in the Fuji Speedway's 86 Cup.
