Her name means "tide" or "current".
She was launched on the 17th of November 1930.
Surrendered on the 15th of August 1945, scrapped in 1948.

She was part of the original game's launch when the game was released on the 23rd of April 2013.
She got her Kai Ni on the 14th of November 2014.
- Received her Kai Ni on the 84th anniversary of her commissioning.

Survived World War II.

Ushio's Summer Swimsuit has a blue with white polka dot design which may be a reference to the actual design colors used during WWII for wrappers of Calpis rations, a milk water soft drink, which were produced and sent to the Imperial Japanese Navy and Army over the duration of the war.
The artist Drew confirmed through a tweet back on the 14th of November 2013 that the stickers on Ushio rigging shown on her gun and torpedo mount straps are supposed to represent (hoped) marked kills she may have been credited for based on IJN reports.
