Besides having slightly better stats compared to the other 4 destroyers you start with, Fubuki (like most destroyers) is mostly average in combat until she has been leveled all the way up to Kai Ni.

General Information
  • Fubuki means blizzard or snowstorm.
  • She was launched on the 15th of November 1927.
  • Sunk in the Battle of Cape Esperance on the 11th of October 1942.
  • Wreck was located in January 2015 by RV Petrel during its survey of Ironbottom Sound. She sits upright in 1,301 m (4,268 ft) of water.

    • Nearly coincided with the start of the Anime, which began on the 8th of January 2015.
Misc
  • One of five starter kanmusu.
  • When introduced, the Fubuki-class were among the most powerful destroyers in the world.
    • Some sources, due to design lineage, have the Ayanami-class (Type II) & Akatsuki-class (Type III) as a part of the Fubuki-class (Type I).
    • Revolutionary design would influence other navies to build newer types.
  • In live events she is portrayed by her seiyuu Sumire Uesaka. She is also one of the mascots of Maizuru Naval District along with Yura, Hatsuyuki, and others.
  • During the KanColle 10th Anniversary Kanmusu Ondo at Sasebo Naval Disctrict, Petty Officer Second Class Kato (3等海曹/Santo Kaiso Kato) of the JMSDF Sasebo Marching Band performed “Fubuki” the ending song of the Kancolle (2015) anime during the KanColle Special Live 2023. She performed it with in her JMSDF Dress Uniform while sporting Fubuki's hairstyle and carrying her own handmade cosplay prop of a 12.7cm Twin Gun Model A.

Behind the Design

Back in June 2016's Comtiq Magazine, an interview was conducted with Kantai Collection's producer Kensuke Tanaka, and artist Shizuma Yoshinori where they discussed about the work they did together back while producing the game. Tanaka mentions that when he first asked Yoshinori to produce a design for the Fubuki-class he came up with a design of a brown hair girl dressed in a rather revealing sailor uniform. Tanaka felt the design looked "too fast" to fit the Fubuki-class.

In turn, Tanaka would later turn to Shibafu to design the Type I and Type II Fubuki-class Destroyers while the remainder of the original design of the Fubuki-class that Yoshinori made would later be converted to make Shimakaze since the whole fast bunny motif she presented better fit her.
