This is the improved version of the successful Type 97 12.7cm twin high-angle gun, mounted (among others) aboard the Japanese Navy’s latest mass-produced destroyer model: The Type D Destroyers. The planned improved barrels for firing at high angles, developed based on lessons learnt during the war from the pre-existing model, were equipped on the first group of the Matsu-class destroyers and have the potential to show good combat effectiveness.
