There are 282 kanmusus (without remodels & class changes) as of the 09/11/2022 update. They come in various Types, Classes, Remodels, and degrees of Rarity.

  • The majority of ships ingame comes from the "Imperial Japanese Navy" (IJN), with some other ships from either the "Imperial Japanese Army" (IJA), or other nations.

Ship Type Identification

In-game tab Type Abbreviation Combat Notes
Battleships 戦艦 Battleship BB Utilize Large Caliber Main Guns, with heavy firepower and armor, unlocking the second shelling phase and having access to better Artillery Spotting. Lack ASW & torpedo attacks.
Fast Battleship FBB BB with higher speed and faster repair times. Almost all are Fast.
BBV BB capable of using most Seaplanes, participating in Aerial Combat, and with ASW capacities.
CV Mainly fight during the Aerial Combat. Cannot attack during Night Battle without the right equipment. Must equip Dive Bombers and/or Torpedo Bombers to be able to carry any attack.
CVB Standard Aircraft Carriers that can still attack while being "moderately damaged (中破)".
CVL Weaker than standard carriers and not always "fast", but capable of attacking submarines and are more permissive routing-wise.
CA Stronger in surface combat than light cruisers at the expense of ASW capacity, utilizing Medium Caliber Guns and Torpedoes.
CAV CA capable of using most Seaplanes, participating in Aerial Combat, and with ASW capacities.
CL Very flexible. Utilizes Medium Caliber Guns, Torpedoes, ASW, & Artillery Spotting.
CLT Torpedo-focused cruisers, having the strongest "night attack power" in the game. Can equip Midget Submarines to enable Opening Torpedo Salvo.
CT Weaker cruisers, mainly used to increase experience gained in PVP. Despite being CLs by several metrics, they are mostly considered as Auxiliaries.
DD Versatile ships with high torpedo, ASW, and evasion stats, do the detriment of armor and firepower, while having low resource consumption and the most permissive routings. They shine best in night battles with their special Cut-ins.
DE Slow and weak ASW-focused ships, that can OASW with only 60 ASW.
Submarines 潜水艦 Submarine SS Limited to both torpedo phases and Night Battles. Only vulnerable to ASW.
SSV Submarines that can equip Seaplanes.
AV Seaplanes focussed ships, they can participate in all attack stages given the correct setup.
AS Are very weak, but can perform a powerful special attack with submarines and has some special routings (notably on 6-1).
AO Can refuel ships mid-sortie using Underway ReplenishmentUnderway Replenishment.
LHA Are needed to develop Daihatsus. They can perform strong attacks against Installations.
Repair Ship AR Akashi have special repair mechanics and is required to improve equipment.

Notes
  • Some ships have additional unique types, but with no impact on types' mechanic behaviors.
    • See here for a complete classifications list.
  • Battleships & Fast Battleships share the hull classification 戦/BB.
  • Light Aircraft Carriers & Standard Aircraft Carriers are termed 正規空母, or Fleet Carriers, to distinguish them from "Escort Carriers" or other carrier types. This term most often refers only to Standard Aircraft Carriers.
  • Even so several types of ships are very similar (CL/CLT/CT, CA/CAV, FBB/BB/BBV, & CV/CVL), they nonetheless are different types than can not always be interchanged, notably regarding branching rules, most Quests, or some Expeditions.
    • So far, both CV & CVB as well as SS & SSV are fully interchangeable.
  • Some ships have remodels shifting their type, their class, and/or their name, see below for more details.

Ship Stats & Remodels

Each ship have a given set of stats, affecting its combat behaviors. Those stats can be modified via Modernization, Leveling (including Marriage), Remodeling, or by simply equipping said ship.

  • See here for more details.

Most ships remodels have (Kai) added in their name, which stands for Modified, Revised, Improved, or Altered in Japanese. For the 2nd remodel, (Ni), 2 or Second in Japanese can be added.

  • Some ships can also have variations depending on their nationality, for special remodels, or may even be renamed after a remodel.
  • This naming scheme can also be found on some equipment.
