General Information

• Named after the state of Massachusetts.
• She was launched on the 23rd of September 1941.
• Became a Museum ship at Battleship Cove on the 14th of August 1965.

Update History

• She was added on the 11th of September 2022 as Summer 2022 Event E5 & E6 drops.

Misc

• Survived World War II.
• One of the few kanmusus who have their real world counterpart still around. In fact, she also asks that we come to see her in her library line.
• She is the only US Battleship that fought and engaged in a gun duel with another battleship in the European Theatre, against Jean Bart.
• According to some records, she broke records in terms of long-range gun hits against Jean Bart.
• Her damaged CG depicts a hole in her flag. This is a reference to a corresponding event during the Battle of Casablanca where a French 8-inch shell tore through her national ensign. The flag was purposefully larger in hopes that the French forces would not fire on the Americans. The original flag is currently on display in the museum ship.
• The art of the small character shown on her remodel’s turret 2 is “George the Gremlin”. While painted by her sailors during the war, there is debate over the reason for the depiction of a gremlin. The original painting was recently discovered to be on turret 1, making the recreation on turret 2 technically erroneous.
