- At first remodel, she has mediocre Firepower and a bad Torpedo stat, making her decent for daytime surface combat thanks to Artillery Spotting but poorly suited for night battle.
- That means that while her Luck stat of 30 lets her perform cut-in attacks at night with some reliability, those just won't hit for much.
- On the other side, she consumes less fuel and ammo than most heavy cruisers.
- No further remodels have been implemented for her yet (as of January 2020).

- She is named after Mount Aoba.
- Unno Juza, a novelist considered the father of Japanese sci-fi, was aboard Aoba during WWII. Referring to this, in-game Aoba always mentions collecting material (news, info, gossip) for her work.
