Trivia

• She was sunk in action on June 8, 1945.
• Ashigara was the last major Japanese warship to be sunk in battle. While other ships were sunk later in the war, bombing raids sunk the rest at or near docks.
• Ashigara was known as the Hungry Wolf due to a description by British journalists criticizing her spartan quarters and a design focused on effectiveness over livability.  The Japanese chose to take it as a compliment, instead.
