↑ Kinu was use as a training ship from '34-'35; she was used to escort the Southwestern Area Fleet's transport mission. Kuma was docked with Kinu when she came under attack by bombers. She was sunk near Panay Island. The last bit is a pun - "Panay" sounds a bit like "panee", slightly dated slang for "awesome".

Trivia

Sunk 26 October 1944 bombed by USN aircraft SW of Masbate, Sibuyan Sea 11°45′N 123°11′E
Though the origin of her name is a proper noun of river, 鬼怒 literally means "angry goblin", and this accounts for her unique pose and character.
As of the the November 4th update, Kinu has earned her second remodel, which allows her to equip Daihatsu, has a unique AACI set up and comes with an automatic 5% resource gain from expeditions, the 5% gain acts as if Kinu is a Daihatsu itself and if included with other Daihatsu, will not exceed 20%.
