In-Game Tips
With the introduction of her Kai Ni Remodel, Asashio received an interchangeable Kai Ni which has allowed her become beneficial in multiple ways. While her traditional Kai Ni remodel allows her to become a strong surface combat ship on par with Yuudachi and Ayanami, her Kai Ni Type D remodel allows her to become beneficial at Daihatsu carrying and ASW combat, since she'll be able to perform a preemptive anti-sub attack with a minimal set of ASW gear (A Type 3 SONAR and a Type 3 Depth Charge should be more than enough to help her get started)
Because of this, both of her Kai Nis have useful benefits which can allow her to be used in many situations, so most admirals should be prepared to refit her so she can used depending on the scenario. If you are in need of more ships that can perform preemptive anti-sub attacks, then it's preferred to have her as a Kai Ni D, but her Kai Ni is a stronger surface combat ship.
As an alternative option, you can always acquire two copies and keep one in each different remodel if need be. This is a valuable option for some admirals, as refitting a ship resets their modernization stats.

- Asashio's Kai Ni D remodel is based upon the Matsu-class Type D Destroyer Model which were Anti-Air and ASW focused destroyers.
