In-Game Tips
U-511/Ro-500 is one of the rare foreign ships players often go after due to her good stats and equipment. Like I-168 she is one of the few submarines that remains a submarine after remodeling instead of becoming a carrier-based submarine, making her cheaper and inexpensive to use in most combat situations as well as having a relatively low repair time.
Obtaining U-511 will reward players with a WG42, which is a great weapon for smaller ships to use on enemy based Installations as it allows to perform a set amount of damage against the enemy units. If you manage to take the time to train her until she is remodeled to Ro-500, she will also give out the Prototype FaT Type 95 Oxygen Torpedo Kai which are great submarine-only torpedoes.
In addition, U-511/Ro-500 is also noted for being the most agile of the submarines making her useful for various needs on normal maps as mentioned below. And due to her very high luck, she is also good at performing Torpedo Cut-ins.
As with all submarines, U-511/Ro-500 can be used to draw enemy fire away from enemy destroyers, light cruisers and certain light carriers, aviation based ships, and on some occasions, enemy installation units since they are usually good for drawing away attacks and can dodge somewhat effectively in battle. Outside of this, using U-511 as part of a submarine fleet can be an effective means of doing various maps for resource hoarding or ranking such as 2-3, 4-2, 4-3, and 5-4.
They can also be effective for clearing maps as 5-3, and 6-1. Like all subs, U-511/Ro-500 has limited usage during events; players may use subs to help conduct early map scouting, contribute with triggering debuffs, or even to draw certain boss units attacks away, but only if the maps permit such usage.
Trivia
- The real U-511 was transferred to Japan from Nazi Germany as part of a technology exchange assistance program, and she was renamed Ro-500 after the Japanese took command of her. The vessel survived the war and was surrendered to the Allies. She was scuttled, on 30 April 1946 at Gulf of Maizuru.
- She is one of two ships in-game that was released with a second remodel in the same update. The other is Taigei.
- Ro-500 is a second-class submarine as noted by the 'Ro' prefix in her name, 'Ro' is the second letter in the Iroha from which the name prefixes for Japanese submarines derives
