I was tasked with being the test bed of a new type of high-temperature, high-pressure boiler meant for the next generation of destroyers. With the data in tow, I was able to hand this over to Shimakaze. I was in quite a few tight spots, but I was able to consistently overcome them. It was quite tough, you know!	The boiler was a prototype design made for Amatsukaze specifically. She underwent many extreme testing scenarios, passing with flying colors, and was later implemented into Shimakaze.

Appearance: 

• Amatsukaze, upon remodeling, gains a small smile on her CG art. Her "hairpin" (chimney) also occasionally bubble out little heart-shaped smoke bubbles. Players in the community have suggested that this might be a sign of her warming up to the admiral. (Amatsukaze was historically (mistakenly) abandoned for some time.)

Personality:

• Typical tsundere. From her dialogue she seems to care about Shimakaze more than a friend, it could be she felt that way since she was being Shimakaze's prototype which in a way should make her Shimakaze's elder sister.

In-game Trivia

• 2014/4/23 Added as the clear drop for E3 during the Spring 2014 Event.
• 2014/8/8 Added as a drop in E1 and E3 boss nodes during the Summer 2014 Event.
• 2014/9/12 Added as 3-5 boss drop.
• 2015/2/6 Added as event drop for E-2 boss, G and H nodes with S rank during Fall 2014 Event.
• After Shimakaze and Yukikaze, Amatsukaze is the third DD to get a Holo (6) rarity.
• Much like the Tone and Abukuma class, when used as modernization fodder Amatsukaze is one of the few destroyers that give a boost to all four stats.
• Upon remodelling, her luck goes down rather than up.

Real Trivia

• She shares a captain (Tameichi Hara) with both Shigure and Yahagi. Captain Hara was the only IJN Destroyer Captain from the start of the war to survive to the very end.
• Survived a torpedo attack from the USS Redfin which blew off her bow after setting off her forward magazine and killed 80 of her crew; the rest of her crew abandoned her under the assumption she was too heavily damaged. She was found still afloat six days later by a Japanese patrol plane and was towed back to Singapore to be fitted with a temporary bow.
• Her name means "heavenly wind."
• Sunk in action by the USAAF, April 6, 1945 near Amoy (now Xiamen), China (24°30′N 118°10′E)
• Scuttled April 10, 1945
• In 2012, the wreckage of Amatsukaze was found by a Chinese engineering ship. About 30 tons of the wreckage was salvaged, cut into pieces and sold as scrap metal before the intervention of local relics administration departments.
