Trivia

• Her name means "Gathering Clouds"

• Although she did rescue Furutaka's crew in the Battle of Cape Esperance, she was later bombed by enemy aircraft. Murakumo caught on fire and became un-maneuverable, 22 died. Shirayuki rescued the remaining survivors and scuttled her with a torpedo.

• Sunk in action, 12 October 1942

• The sword on her back is a nod to the Ame-no-murakumo-no-tsurugi ("The Sword of the Gathering Clouds of Heaven"), more commonly known today as Kusanagi-no-tsurugi (The "Grass-cutting Sword"), one of the three pieces of the Imperial Regalia of Japan - akin to the Crown Jewels of the UK.
