Remodeling is a game mechanic that allows upgrading ship girls to improve their combat effectiveness. Ships can notably gain special abilities and extra equipment slots on remodel. It is generally a good idea to remodel a ship when possible.

Overview

A remodeled ship girl will have Kai (改) suffixed to her name.
- Some ship girls have a second or third remodel with different suffixes (e.g. Ni (二)).
- Some ship girls have additional suffixes to denote a specialty.
- Some ship girls will be renamed.
- See here for more detail.
It restores a ship girl to full HP and supply.
It sets her morale to 40.
All equipped equipment will be placed in storage.
All modernization of firepower , torpedo , anti-air , and armour will be reset.
- HP , ASW , and Luck modernization will be carried over.

The ship card will additionally have a "flower & fog" effect added, either to the top left or bottom right (both being arbitrary).

Stats After Remodel

After remodeling a ship, its stats will evolve depending on its new base stats.

Stats that can be increased through general modernization (, , , ) will be reset using the following formula:

Linear Growth Formula

With

[math]\displaystyle{ \text{Rand} }[/math] a random number, either 0.4 or 0.8
[math]\displaystyle{ min }[/math] the new minimum value of the stat in question.
[math]\displaystyle{ max }[/math] the new maximum value of the stat in question.
[math]\displaystyle{ lv }[/math] the current level of the ship

Stats with "Linear Growth" (, , ) simply follow the same rule, with only the base respective stat changing.
The & gained with marriage are kept upon remodeling.
Any stats gained through HPmod, Luckmod, ASWmod do not reset upon remodeling.
- This notably creates the interesting cases (if previously moded from another form) of:
  - Yamato Kai Ni (FBB) being able to have base ASW stats and so attack submarines,
  - Kaga Kai Ni/E having base ASW stats but unable to attack submarines in any circumstance,
  - Zuihou Kai Ni being the only CVL (not CVE), with base ASW.

Resource Requirements

All remodels cost varying amounts of ammunition and steel , and they will often also require DevMats and Torches . Some ship girls may also require additional items such as Blueprints , or Action Reports .

Convertible Remodels

Several ship girls have the ability to freely convert between remodels. These alternative remodels have different specialties and abilities. You'll want to carefully consider which version you will use most often.

Converting between remodels will still reset all firepower, torpedo, anti-air, and armor modernization.
The remodel will still cost ammo and steel. Some conversions will cost additional instant constructions, development materials, or blueprints.

Stats On Remodeling

Ooi has just been remodelled to Kai Ni, and her base stats are already higher than the base ones.

Upon remodeling, the stats do not match the minimums stated in the individual ship girl pages. This is because the minimums listed are the stats for that remodel at level 1. Since remodels do not occur at level 1, the actual minimums differ. Please see the stats page for more details.

Special Remodel Animations

With the implementation of Kongou Kai Ni C onward, most of the introduced second+ ship remodels now have a "special animation".

This animation is only seen during the remodeling, and cannot be seen again (unless remaking the remodeling),
- For "switchable remodels", the animation plays each time.
Upon validating the remodeling, a second confirmation screen will appear, with the remodeling cost and a shadow preview of the remodel,
The new remodels receiving this special animation are arbitrary, mostly reserved for more significant ships, and ships with "special elements" (mostly special class or type).
