In-Game Trivia

• Treats Ooi rather differently than the player.
• After being remodelled into torpedo cruisers, Kitakami, Ooi and Kiso can equip Type A Ko-hyoteki to fire opening torpedoes before the shelling phase.
• Before remodelling, Kitakami is a pretty average CL. Upon remodeling to Kai at level 10, the increase in her torpedo stat and the two 61cm Quad O₂ Torpedo Mount she brings are a huge boost to any beginning fleet.
• Upon remodelling to Kai, she refers to herself as "Super Kitakami-sama"
• She and Ooi were the first ships to receive Kai Ni on 6/19/2013. Chiyoda and Chitose followed on 7/24/2013.
• Having some of the best overall torpedo and firepower combined, she and Ooi boast some of the most power in Night Battle. With a torpedo cut-in, she has the potential to completely take out an event boss during a night battle.
• Though powerful in certain cases, her weakness of low AA and low armor can make her prone to easily taking damage from heavier opponents like BB and CV.
• Being a CL, if there are any SS left during night battle, she will not be able to shine and use her cut-in attacks.
• Though still a derivation of the CL, upon being remodelled to CLT her ammo consumption will skyrocket to near CV levels. Use caution when using her repeatedly.

Real Trivia

• Her name is taken from the "Kitakami River".
• She and Ooi were converted into fast transports to perform escort missions during the war. Nearly two years after her conversion, she was again converted, this time into a Kaiten suicide-torpedo craft. 
• She served on the repatriation service after the war as the repair tender ship on repatriation duties.
• Scrapped 10 August 1946.
