Trivia
- Sunk, Action of 8 June 1945
- Ashigara was the last major Japanese warship to be sunk in battle. While other ships were sunk later in the war, they were all at or near docks by bombing raids.
- Was known as the "Hungry Wolf," after a description by British Journalists criticizing her spartan quarters and design focused on effectiveness over livability. The Japanese chose to take it as a compliment, instead.
