- ↑ USS Wasp was sunk by I-19's infamous torpedo salvo while covering a landing convoy at Guadalcanal - Helena was with her and rescued the survivors.
- ↑ All of Helena's major battles were chaotic night battles during the Guadalcanal campaign.
- ↑ Helena was equipped with advanced SG Radar after repairing her damage at Pearl Harbor, but at Esperance and Guadalcanal/Third Battle of the Solomon Sea, the American commanders were inexperienced in their tactical usage, leading to chaos. These experiences led to the American invention of the CIC (Combat Information Center).
