I, Kaga, was built as the third ship of the eight-eight fleet. After being played by fate time after time, I was completed as a large aircraft carrier. Along with Akagi-san, we are main force of the glorious first air carrier division. | Kaga was originally intended to be built as a battle-cruiser, although the construction was halted by Washington treaty in 1921. Kaga was set to be scrapped for metal required to convert Akagi and Amagi from battle-cruisers into carriers. During construction Amagi was damaged beyond repair in the great Kanto Earthquake (1923) and Kaga took its place for conversion. | |

Appearance
Kaga has long brown hair, usually done in a side ponytail. She is typically seen wearing a muneate over white and blue clothes along with a bow and arrow. Usually depicted as constantly serious.
Personality
Kaga is portrayed as emotionless and serious, to contrast with Akagi's playful "spoiled brat" persona.
Also shown to be disapproving of the 5th Car Div (Zuikaku and Shoukaku).
Trivia
- Her side ponytail depicts her distinctive downward-facing funnel, used to exhaust air operation gases.
- Scuttled after being heavily damaged by a US air attack at the Battle of Midway, 4 June 1942
- Origninally designed as a Tosa-class Battleship she was converted into a carrier after the signing of the Washington Naval Treaty in 1921.
- In the 4koma, she is often portrayed as irrationally protective of Akagi from the destroyers that historically scuttled her (who were also their escorts). Historically, all four CarDiv1 and CarDiv2 carriers (Akagi, Hiryuu, Souryuu and herself) were scuttled in the Battle of Midway by Japanese destroyers' torpedoes after being heavily damaged by air attacks. During WW2, scuttling (intentional allied sinking to prevent capture) was very common, and the IJN rarely took prisoners or allowed themselves to be POWs.
