Jet planes are a new plane that has been introduce into Kantai Collection as of the December 9th, 2016 Update. Unlike normal planes, Jet planes are capable of being used in ways of helping you get an easier advantage against enemy Abyssal units by being able to attack of the course of two times during the Aerial Phases they partake in. In addition, only Land-Based Air Squadrons and Armored Carriers such as Shoukaku Kai Ni A and Zuikaku Kai Ni A can use these they jet planes and when in use they will consume steel along with other resources.

Jets were introduced in the December 9th, 2016 Update. Jets possess the ability to perform a Jet Assault before the aerial combat phase.
Jet Planes come with the unique ability to to be able to participate in a per-emptive Aerial Attack phase known as the Jet Raid Phase Jets will come in and conduct the first attack against enemy units while fighting off enemy jet planes that also participate and attacking enemy units. During this phase the Jet plane also become less likely to be taken down by enemy Anti-Air attacks making them capable of participating in the Aerial Attack phase. Keep in mind however, that they are not completely immune to Anti-Air Attacks and can possibly take result in planes being lost while in this phase.

Once the phase is complete, they will again begin to assist in the Aerial Attack phase, which will participate with all other planes being able to conduct a second attack against the enemy unit and are more susceptible to AA attack as all other fighters and Anti-Air attacks during this phase.
+
Jet List
 +
"Jets" refer to "Turbojet propelled planes".

Note however that for every sortie you use a Jet within, Steel will be consumed upon use.
+
Currently the game includes 4 planes with a turbojet:
 +
*JetFighterBomber2 , a "turbojet carrier-based fighter-bomber",
 +
*JetFighterBomber1 , a "turbojet carrier-based fighter-bomber",
 +
*LB Fighter Jet , a "turbojet land-based fighter/interceptor",
 +
**So far it just behaves as a regular Interceptor,
 +
*Fighter , a mixed "piston engine propeller and turbojet carrier-based fighter",
 +
**So far it is just a regular Fighter.

There are two known Jet Raid Phase which have been proven to exsist at the time:<br>
+
In the following, only the Kikka Kai and Jet Keiun Kai will be treated as "jets", as they are the only ones having "jet behaviors".
Fleet Based Jet Raid Phase<br>
+
*Rocket aircraft are also ignored as they have nothing to do with jets either, see here.
Land-Based Air Squadron Jet Raid Phase

Fleet Based Jet Raid Phase
+
Mechanics
When an Shoukaku Kai Ni A and Zuikaku Kai Ni A are armed with a Jet plane and partake in a sortie, the Jet plane will be used before the Aerial Phase takes place. All of the above mentioned regarding how the Jet Planes will attack will take place during this phase.
+
1. Two "jets" are currently available in the game, the and the .
 +
*Carrier jets have unique equipment icons : JetFighterBomber2 and JetFighterBomber1 respectively

Following this, they will partake in the shelling phase as the same way all planes do during this phase when the Armored Carriers attack.
+
2. Jets can only be equipped by Shoukaku Kai Ni A, Zuikaku Kai Ni A, Kaga Kai Ni Go, and Victorious Kai, and placed in Land-Based Air Squadrons.

The Steel that is consumed is dependent on how many Jet planes you have in your carrier that are still standing in each node battle and the type of Jet plane is used. And Steel will be consumed in each node they partake in the Jet Raid Phase.
+
3. Using jets will consume steelsteel in addition to bauxitebauxite.

Land-Based Air Squadron Jet Raid Phase
+
4. Having a jet equipped will allow a pre-emptive aerial attack known as Jet Assault (JA).
When a Jet is equipped to your Land-Based Air Squadron, the Jet plane will partake in a Jet Raid Phase before the Land Based Air Sqaudron conducts thier attack. They will perform the Jet Raid Phase in the same way as mentioned above and then follow up with partaking in the Land Based Air Support Phase.
+
* Jets will still participate in the following aerial combat phases.
 +
* Damage during the jet assault is calculated the same way as dive bombers (x1.0), but damage during the airstrike phase is reduced (x0.7071).
 +
** For LBAS jet assault, both jet assault and LBAS bombing use the lower multiplier.

Steel consumption is is dependent on how many Jet planes are in your LBAS slot at the time and are will be consumed during the nodes which Land Based Air Support is conducted and also during when Enemy Air Raids take place if the Jet is set to perform Air Defence.
+
5. Unlike most planes, both jets are Long Range Range.

Steel Consumption
+
6. Jets have a high Anti-Air Resistance that reduces losses to anti-air fire.
Steel is used for Jet plane equipment to help maintain the engines and will be consumed upon each node they participate in during Battle nodes where LBAS are selected to participate, Armoered Carriers Shoukaku Kai Ni A and Zuikaku Kai Ni A equipped with Jets, or from Land Base Enemy Air Raids when a Jet is equipped in your LBAS and attempting to intercept.

As mentioned the steel you consume is dependent on the number of Jets available on each slot, the number of nodes they partake in / or are involved in a Land Base Enemy Air Raid. In addition, the type of Jet you use will also vary in cost as well.

The follow below is explains the steel consumption raid of each plane:
+
7. Jets will go through three different shoot-down phases per normal battle.
 +
* Anti-air during the Jet Assault.
 +
* Shoot down during Air Control.
 +
* Anti-air during the normal airstrike.
 +
The jet assault phase cannot trigger AACI.

+
8. Jets do not count as Dive Bombers nor Fighters, and so cannot activate the CVCI or take part in it.

Jet Type !! Steel Consumption
+
Steel Cost
+
The steel consumption of jets is:
Kikka Kai|| 2.6 Steel per Plane
+
{{Formula
+
Title=Steel consumption formula
Jet Keiun Kai || 2.8 Steel per Plane
+
Math=\text{Jet Phase Cost} = \sum^{\text{All Jets} } \lceil \text{Count}_\text{Plane} \times \text{Steel Cost} \rceil
+
Var=<math>\text{Count}_\text{Plane}</math> is the current plane count at the start of the battle.
 +
* <math>\text{Steel Cost}</math> is the steel cost per plane.
 +
** Kikka Kai: 2.6
 +
** Jet Keiun Kai: 2.8
 +
Notes=Take note that the costs are rounded up.
 +
* Jets only cost steel in nodes where they are used for jet assaults and airstrikes.
 +
** Night battles will not cost steel.
 +
* Steel is consumed upon returning to base.
 +
** This means jets can still be used even when having not enough steel for the sortie.
 +
* Because LBAS squadrons are refilled between waves, jets will always cost the full 18 planes per wave.
 +
}}

Using this as an example we can determine a basic idea of how the Jet planes work.
+
Use Notes
 +
#Since they use the dive bomber multiplier and have a weaker airstrike per plane, making their use against larger targets is limited if used alone.
 +
#They are "fighter-bombers" with a very hight AA resist. This makes them useful when needing to maximize fighter power while maintaining some striking power.
 +
#*Jets are the fighter-bombers with the highest AA AA and Dive Bombing Dive in-game, and among the only planes to provide Range Range.
 +
#*This usefulness is relative, since they cannot be used in a CVCI.
 +
#The steel cost can add up very quickly, especially when being equipped on the largest slots of the CV.
 +
#*Note that equipping them in smaller slots limits their ability to contribute to air control and damage.

For example, if Shoukaku Kai Ni A is armed with a Kikka Kai in her 34 slot and participates in a sortie. In the first now, she will use all 34 of her planes and will consume steel for all 34 of the Jet planes (which totals up to 88.4 steel.), she looses 4 planes during Ariel phase and then proceeds to the next node in which she uses 30 of her planes she has left (which will result in 78 steel), she looses 6 planes during the Jet Raid Phase and then 4 more during the Ariel phase resulting in her having 20 planes left. In the final node, she uses her 20 planes which results in 52 steel being consumed.

Acquiring Jets
 +
Currently, the only way to acquire Jets is by obtaining several special items from Quests or ranking, that are necessary to obtain the Kikka Kai and produce the Jet Keiun Kai :

Jets were introduced in the December 9th, 2016 Update. Jets possess the ability to perform a Jet Assault before the aerial combat phase.

Jet List

"Jets" refer to "Turbojet propelled planes".

Currently the game includes 4 planes with a turbojet:

  • JetFighterBomber2.png Kikka KaiKikka Kai, a "turbojet carrier-based fighter-bomber",
  • JetFighterBomber1.png Jet Keiun KaiJet Keiun Kai, a "turbojet carrier-based fighter-bomber",
  • Land-based Fighter Jet Me 262 A-1a/R1Me 262 A-1a/R1, a "turbojet land-based fighter/interceptor",
  • Fighter FR-1 FireballFR-1 Fireball, a mixed "piston engine propeller and turbojet carrier-based fighter",
    • So far it is just a regular Fighter.

In the following, only the Kikka Kai and Jet Keiun Kai will be treated as "jets", as they are the only ones having "jet behaviors".

  • Rocket aircraft are also ignored as they have nothing to do with jets either, see here.

Mechanics

1. Two "jets" are currently available in the game, the Kikka KaiKikka Kai and the Jet Keiun KaiJet Keiun Kai.

  • Carrier jets have unique equipment icons : JetFighterBomber2.png and JetFighterBomber1.png respectively

2. Jets can only be equipped by Shoukaku Kai Ni AShoukaku Kai Ni A, Zuikaku Kai Ni AZuikaku Kai Ni A, Kaga Kai Ni GoKaga Kai Ni Go, and Victorious KaiVictorious Kai, and placed in Land-Based Air Squadrons.

3. Using jets will consume steelSteel in addition to bauxiteBauxite.

4. Having a jet equipped will allow a pre-emptive aerial attack known as Jet Assault (JA).

  • Jets will still participate in the following aerial combat phases.
  • Damage during the jet assault is calculated the same way as dive bombers (x1.0), but damage during the airstrike phase is reduced (x0.7071).
    • For LBAS jet assault, both jet assault and LBAS bombing use the lower multiplier.

5. Unlike most planes, both jets are Long Range Range.

6. Jets have a high Anti-Air Resistance that reduces losses to anti-air fire.

Plane Air State Modifier Ship AA Modifier Fleet AA Modifier
JetFighterBomber1.pngJet Keiun KaiJet Keiun Kai 0.6 0.5 0.7
JetFighterBomber2.pngKikka KaiKikka Kai 0.6 0.5 0.5

7. Jets will go through three different shoot-down phases per normal battle.

  • Anti-air during the Jet Assault.
  • Shoot down during Air Control.
  • Anti-air during the normal airstrike.

The jet assault phase cannot trigger AACI.

8. Jets do not count as Dive Bombers nor Fighters, and so cannot activate the CVCI or take part in it.

Steel Cost

The steel consumption of jets is:

Steel consumption formula
[math]\displaystyle{ \text{Jet Phase Cost} = \sum^{\text{All Jets} } \lceil \text{Count}_\text{Plane} \times \text{Steel Cost} \rceil }[/math]
With
  • [math]\displaystyle{ \text{Count}_\text{Plane} }[/math] is the current plane count at the start of the battle.
  • [math]\displaystyle{ \text{Steel Cost} }[/math] is the steel cost per plane.
Notes
  • Take note that the costs are rounded up.
  • Jets only cost steel in nodes where they are used for jet assaults and airstrikes.
    • Night battles will not cost steel.
  • Steel is consumed upon returning to base.
    • This means jets can still be used even when having not enough steel for the sortie.
  • Because LBAS squadrons are refilled between waves, jets will always cost the full 18 planes per wave.

Use Notes

  1. Since they use the dive bomber multiplier and have a weaker airstrike per plane, making their use against larger targets is limited if used alone.
  2. They are "fighter-bombers" with a very hight AA resist. This makes them useful when needing to maximize fighter power while maintaining some striking power.
    • Jets are the fighter-bombers with the highest AA Anti-Air and Dive Bombing Dive Bomber Attack in-game, and among the only planes to provide Range Range.
    • This usefulness is relative, since they cannot be used in a CVCI.
  3. The steel cost can add up very quickly, especially when being equipped on the largest slots of the CV.
    • Note that equipping them in smaller slots limits their ability to contribute to air control and damage.

Acquiring Jets

Currently, the only way to acquire Jets is by obtaining several special items from Quests or ranking, that are necessary to obtain the Kikka Kai and produce the Jet Keiun Kai :
