The following interview was conducted in the Comptiq Magazine June 2017 edition (released on June 10th, 2017) in which seiyuu Uchida Shu discusses her involvement with KanColle.

Within this 2 page article, Uchida Shu discusses about how KanColle is known outside of Japan while discussing brifely about how she landed her debut role as a Seiyuu voicing Warspite. She then discusses about her impression and how she came up with some of Warspite's line and how she mixes the English and Japanese language togehter while also talking about her attendence to her first major Kancolle Live Event, the Naval District Saury Festival in Yokohama.

会見者：内田さんは、Warspite役が声優として始めてのお仕事だったと聞いています。お気持ちはいかがでしたか？ 内田：私はずっとオーストラリアで暮らしていたのですが、「艦これ」は外国でも人気があって、いろんな方が話題にしていたりコスプレをされたりしているのを見ていました。だから初めてのお仕事で、こんなに大きな役をいただきえたことにとにかくびっくりしました。 会見者：オーストラリアにいたときから、アニメや漫画に興味はあったんですか？ 内田：そうですね。日本のアニメや漫画の情報も入ってくるので、いろんな作品を見ていました。本格的に日本に住むようになったのは３年くらい前からなんですけど、オーストラリアに住んでいたころには情報が入ってこなかった作品もやっぱりたくさんあって。いろんな作品を見て刺激を受けながら、声優としてのスキルアップにも役立てるようにしています。 会見者：内田さんが演じられたWarspiteの第一印象は？ 内田：初めてイラストを拝見させていただいたときに感じたのは、清涼感のあるさわやかな美人さんという印象でした。頭にちょこんと乗っかっている王冠もかわいらしいですよね。イラストを見た瞬間から、一目惚れのように見入ってしまいました。そのときの印象では上品なイメージだったのですが、言葉の端々には、けっこう天然っぽさがあるんですよね。わざわざ「本場の紅茶」って言うあたりは、出身がイギリスということを言いたいのかなって思って、愛嬌のある可愛らしい子だなって思いました。鎮守府での食事がおいしいと感じていて、食べ物に関する言葉もけっこう多くお話をしているので、もしかしたら食いしん坊なところもあるのかもしれませんね。 会見者：彼女の言葉は英語と日本語が入り交じるものが多いですよね？ 内田：英語のセリフについては、日本の提督さｎと海外の提督さん、どちらの方にもしっかりと伝わってほしいな思い、ゆっくりかつ明瞭に話すよう心掛けていました。英語が日本語に切り替わるときは、とにかくカタコトみたいに聞こえないよう、気をつけていました。英語のしゃべりかたは日本語とトーンが違っているので、ハッと切り替えるのが大変で収録中はけっこう噛んじゃっていた記憶があります。 会見者：たとえば、どういうときでしたか？ 内田：出撃時の「Sally go!主力艦隊、抜錨する！」というセリフは、「Sally go!」と言ったあとにその勢いを保ったまま日本語に切り替えるのが難しかったです。「Sally go! 」のあと一拍置くんですけど、置きすぎちゃうと迫力がなくなるので、できる限り間を短くして。ほかにも入居時の「少しだけ、Dockに入るわ」みたいな、日本語の途中に英語が入るようなセリフなども、切り替えを意識して演じさせていただきました。	Interviewer (I): Uchida-san, I've heard that portraying Warspite was your very first role. How did it feel? Uchida (U): I've lived in Australia my whole life, but KanColle is well known even abroad, and I saw a lot of people discussing it or cosplaying. So I was really surprised that my first job would get to be such a huge role. I: Were you interested in anime and manga when you lived in Australia? U: Yeah. We hear a lot about Japanese anime and manga, so I saw many different works. I only started really living in Japan about three years ago, and that's when I realized that there's a lot of ones we didn't hear about in Australia. I watched a lot and used them for motivation as I learned how to be a voice actor. I: What was your first impression of your character, Warspite? U: When I saw her art for the first time, I thought she seemed to have this refreshing beauty. That little crown resting on her head is cute too, isn't it? From the moment I saw her, I couldn't look away, like love at first sight. My impression back then was of an elegant lady, but throughout her lines, she's actually quite the airhead. Going out of her walk to talk about "genuine black tea" - I thought she was a charmingly cute girl for trying to bring up her birthplace, Britain, like that. A lot of her lines are spent talking about food, as if she thinks the food on base is delicious - maybe she has a bit of a foodie side to her. I: She mixes her English and Japanese a lot in her speech, doesn't she? U: Doing her English lines, I wondered which audience to double down on getting the message across to - the admirals in Japan, or the ones abroad? I made sure to speak clearly and precisely. When switching from English into Japanese, I focused on not letting my speech sound broken in either. English and Japanese differ in tone, so turning on a dime during recording was hard - I remember having quite a tough time of it. I: Any examples of when? U: Her sortie line, "Sally go! Main fleet, weigh anchor!". Keeping the energy from "Sally go!" while switching to Japanese was hard. There's a brief pause after "Sally go!", but if it's too long the line loses impact, so I shortened it as much as I could. And her docking line, "I'll be in the docks for a bit. See you later." When doing Japanese lines with English words slipped in like that, I had to take care with the switch.

会見者：Warspiteのセリフで、とくに印象に残っているものは？ 内田：バレンタインのボイスなど、特別な瞬間だけだと思うんですけど、たまに提督さｎを「My Admiral」って呼ぶんです。海外では、好きな人に対して「あなたのことすっごい好きよ」というのをとにかく強調することが多いと思います。Warspiteも「私だけ」のっていみを込めて「My」を付けて呼んでいるのではないかと思いますが、海外艦娘らしい愛情表現だなと思って、とても好きな言葉のひとつですね。 会見者：ケッコンカッコリのボイスでも、提督を「My Admiral」とよんでいますね。 内田：あのボイスは、提督からリングをもらってうれしそうにしているWarspiteが印象的でした。海外の人はたいてい、日本人よりもリアクションが大きいと思うので「本当に私でいいの？」という反応を大きめにしなくちゃと、自分では頑張ったつもりです（笑）。 会見者：ちなみに、ほかの艦娘で気になっている子はいますか？ 内田：いまは翔鶴さんが秘書艦なんです。やさしそうな声で語りかけてくれるので、いつも癒されています。お姉さんにいてほしいタイプですね。ビジュアルのことを言うと、大和や天津風のような長い髪の子が好きなんですよ。長い髪がふわっとなっているところがすごくかわいいなって思います。 会見者：内田さんは、２０１６年１０月に開崔された「鎮守府秋刀魚祭りin横浜泊地」に参加されていました。こうしたリアルイベントに出演するのは初めてだったとのことですが、当時の感想を教えてください。 内田：すごい緊張しました。私が最後に紹介されたんですけど、緊張でプルプル震えちゃって。そんな私を見かねたのか、藤田咲さんや皆さんがトークを振ってくださいまして、緊張がやわらいでいきました。それがなかったら、黙り込んでしまっていたかもしれません。でも来てくださっている皆さんの前で、サンマを焼いたり初めての鏡開きに挑戦したりというのは、とても楽しかったです。初めて食べた炭火焼きのサンマがすごく美味しく香りもとてもよかったです！ 会見者：今後個人的に、「艦これ」でやってみたいことは？ 内田：元気いっぱいの艦娘とか、Warspiteとは違う感じのこも演じられたらうれしいです。でも英語のセリフを言えるのは楽しかったので、もし今後ほかのイギリス艦が出てくるのであればチャレンジさせていただきたいです。あと「鎮守府秋刀魚祭り」がすごく楽しかったので毎年やっている「艦これ」観艦式とかの大きなリアルイベントにもぜひ出てみたいですね。大勢のファンの皆さんと一緒に、楽しい時間を共有したいです。 会見者：最後に、コンプティーク読者にメッセージをお願いします。 内田：「艦これ」、四周年ということで、おめでとうございます！そして、提督の皆さん、いつも「艦これ」をプレイしていただいてありがとうございます。提督のみなさんにWarspiteと、もっといっぱい一緒に過ごしてもらい、そしてこれからも、「艦これ」をプレイし続けてもらえたらとてもうれしいです。 会見者：ありがとうございました！	I: What major impression did Warspite's lines leave on you? U: In rare, special moments like her Valentine's line, she calls the admiral "My Admiral". Overseas, emphatically telling your loved one "I really like you" is quite common. I thought Warspite used "My", as in "mine alone", in that same way - a very foreign shipgirl-like expression of love. That's one of the lines I really like. I: Warspite also calls the admiral "My Admiral" in her marriage line. U: The idea behind that line is that she's really happy to get the ring from the admiral. I think the reaction to getting a ring is a lot bigger overseas, so I had to go for a reaction like "Is it really for me?". I put a lot into that of my own accord (laugh). I: By the way, are there other shipgirls you like? U: Shoukaku-san's my secretary ship right now. She speaks with a gentle voice - it's always so soothing. She's the kind of person you'd want to call your oneesan. Visually, I like long-haired girls like Yamato and Amatsukaze. I think the way long hair sorta floats is super cute. I: Uchida-san, you took part in the "Naval District Saury Festival in Yokohama Anchorage" in October 2016. As it was your first time performing in a live event, how did it feel at the time? U: I was really nervous. I was introduced last, so I was trembling the whole time out of nervousness. When she saw me like that, Saki Fujita-san along with the rest talked to me and calmed me down. I might've clammed up on stage if not for them. But grilling the sanma and trying to break the mochi for the first time, all in front of everyone who came to see us - it was really fun. It was my first charcoal-grilled sanma, and it was really delicious with a wonderful aroma! I: What would you personally like to do in KanColle in the future? U: I'd like to do a really lively shipgirl, or a girl with a different feel from Warspite. But having lines in English was fun, so if other British ships come out, I'd like to take that challenge on as well. The Naval District Saury Festival was really fun, so I'd like to appear in other big, annual, live events, like the KanColle Naval Review. I want to have a great time with a big crowd of fans. I: And finally, a message for the Comptiq readers, please. U: Congratulations on your fourth anniversary, KanColle! And to all the admirals, thank you for playing KanColle. I hope the admirals get to spend more time with Warspite and continue to play KanColle in the future. I: Thank you very much!
