There are 282 kanmusus (without remodels & class changes) as of the 09/11/2022 update. They come in various Types, Classes, Remodels, and degrees of Rarity.

  • The majority of ships ingame comes from the "Imperial Japanese Navy" (IJN), with some other ships from either the "Imperial Japanese Army" (IJA), or other nations.

Ship Type Identification

Aircraft Carriers 正規空母 Standard Aircraft Carrier 空母 CV Achieves air superiority by Fighters. Cannot attack during night battle without the right equipment. Must equip Dive Bombers and/or Torpedo Bombers to enable regular attacks.
装甲空母 Armored Aircraft Carrier 装母 CVB Armored Aircraft Carriers can still attack with moderate hull damage.
軽空母 Light Aircraft Carrier 軽母 CVL Weaker than standard carriers, but capable of attacking submarines and are more permissive routing-wise.
Heavy Cruisers 重巡洋艦 Heavy Cruiser 重巡 CA Stronger in surface combat than light cruisers at the expense of ASW capacity.
航空巡洋艦 Aviation Cruiser 航巡 CAV* CA capable of using most Seaplanes, initiating fighter combat to enable artillery spotting, and with ASW capacities.
Light Cruisers 軽巡洋艦 Light Cruiser 軽巡 CL Very flexible. Utilizes Medium Guns, Torpedoes ASW, & artillery spotting.
重雷装巡洋艦 Torpedo Cruiser 雷巡 CLT* Have the strongest night attack power in the game. Can equip midget submarines to enable opening torpedo attacks.
練習巡洋艦 Training Cruiser 練巡 CT* Increases experience gained in PVP Exercises. Despite being CLs by several metrics, they are mostly considered as Auxiliaries.
Destroyers 駆逐艦 Destroyer 駆逐 DD Versatile ships with high torpedo, ASW, and evasion stats, do the detriment of armor and firepower, while having low resource consumption and the most permissive routings. They shine best in night battles with their special Cut-ins.
Coastal Defense 海防艦 Coastal Defense Ships 海防 DE* ASW-focused ships, they can OASW at 60 ASW but are slow and weak.
Submarines 潜水艦 Submarine SS Limited to both torpedo phases & night battle. Only vulnerable to ASW.
潜水空母 Submarine Aircraft Carrier 潜母 SSV* Submarines that can equip Seaplanes.
Auxiliaries 水上機母艦 Seaplane Tender 水母 AV Seaplanes focussed ships, they can participate in all day attack stages given the correct setup.
潜水母艦 Submarine Tender 潜母艦 AS Are weak but can perform a powerful special attack with submarines and has some special routings (notably on 6-1).
給油艦 Fleet Oiler 補給 AO Can refuel ships mid-sortie using Underway Replenishment .
揚陸艦 Amphibious Assault Ship 揚陸 LHA Are needed to develop Daihatsus. They can perform strong attacks against Installations.
工作艦 Repair Ship AR Akashi have special repair mechanics and is needed to improve equipment.

Exceptions

Ship Stats & Remodels

Each ship have a given set of stats, affecting its combat behaviors. Those stats can be modified via Modernization, Leveling (including Marriage), Remodeling, or by simply equipping said ship.

Most ships remodels have (Kai) added in their name, which stands for Modified, Revised, Improved, or Altered in Japanese. For the 2nd remodel, (Ni), 2 or Second in Japanese can be added.

  • Some ships can also have variations depending on their nationality, for special remodels, or may even be renamed after a remodel.
  • This naming scheme can also be found on some equipment.
