This article aims to provide advice on the better ways to farm for certain ships in order to use them as Modernization fodder. Those ships notably include:
Maruyu
Maruyu Kai is the best way to modernize reliably the luck of any ship in the game.
- For more information on this topic, see Maruyu modding.
LSC
Maruyu is a reliable LSC craft, being obtained by using the minimum amount of resources.
- She gets even better crafting rates by crafting her with as few "free docks" as possible.
- It is advised to attempt such craft only when reaching the resource caps, to avoid wasting any resource gain.

Sorties
Dropping Maruyuu is usually the best way to farm her, as it is cheaper than doing LSC crafts.
3-5
3-5 is the best place to farm Maruyuu, being cheaper and faster. The main downside is the moral drain resulting in ending the sortie on an "off-route node".
- It is important to first clear the map in order to have the proper drop rate.
- If HQ ≤ 84: 0 %
- If if HQ ≥ 85, LD & post clear: 2.5 %
- If if HQ ≥ 85, pre-LD:
- 1.4 % (on the 2 Ro-class LM formation)
- 0 % (on the 5 Escort Fortress formations)
This effectively means that if your HQ is 84 or lower, don't even bother farming here as it's impossible to get her.
- Recommended Fleet
- 1 (F)BB(V), 3 CVL, 2 CAV/AV
- Route = B D H J
- Tips
- Node H flagship is a soft-skin installation, requiring gears such as AA Shells and Landing Equipment.
- It is recommended to bring a Nelson-class to utilize her touch.
- The CAV/AV should be preferably Mogami-class Kai Ni Toku
. - As the final node is a resource node, it is possible to continue the sortie even when being taiha on H.
- The uses of Ka-Tsu tanks
is recommended in order to boost the ammo gain on the final node, raising the base 50 gain to 130 when using 2 kat-su+ka-tsu kai pairs (+1~10 gain when improved).
4-5
4-5 is slightly worse than 3-5 as the drop rate was decreased in the past years.
- Recommended Fleet
- 1-2 (F)BB(V)/CV(B), 1 CL, 3 DD
- Route = Random:
- A D H T
- C D H T
- If HQ ≥ 113, LD only OR HQ ≤ 112 and the boss comp DOES NOT have 2 Wa-Class Elite:
- If owning 0 Maruyu: 3.0 %
- If owning 1+ Maruyu: 1.75 %
- If HQ ≤ 112, LD only and the boss comp has 2 Wa-Class Elite OR pre-LD and post clear only (all HQ levels):
- If owning 0 Maruyu: 2.0 %
- If owning 1+ Maruyu: 0.75 %
- Tips
- Node H flagship is a soft-skin installation, requiring gears such as AA Shells and Landing Equipment.
6-2
- Recommended Fleet
- 1 (F)BB(V), 2 CAV/AV, 2 DD
- Route = C E J K
Drop rate: 2.0 %
- Tips
- It is advised to bring a Nelson-class to utilize her touch.
- The CAV/AV should be preferably Mogami-class Kai Ni Toku
.
DE
DE are the best way to modernize the HP of any ship in the game, as well as the only way to modernize ASW and a good way to modernize Luck.
- For more information on this topic, see DE modding.
Sorties
DE can only be obtained via drops, and only limited time drops so far, thus, there is almost no reliable way to farm them.
DE Drop Behaviors
Unlike any other ship type in the game, DE are subject to unique drop cap behavior, similar to overfishing. To farm for them efficiently, knowing how their drop mechanic works is important.
- Having more than 3 duplicate of a certain DE will decrease its rate on all maps.
- Using 10+ times a certain DE as fodder will start introducing the chance of decreasing its rate on all maps, as seen in map 1-3, so it's safe to assume the same counter is applied for map 7-4.
- For more information on this topic, see Overfishing Cap.
7-4
So far, only 7-4 has a constant set of DE drops, being a reliable farm location.
- Recommended Fleet
- Hyuuga Kai Ni, Zuihou/Ryuuhou Kai Ni E/B
, 1 CL/CA(V), 3 DD - Route = A B E J L P
- LBAS Node P: Range = 2
- Fleet setup reference: [1]
- The drop rate of all DE here depends on the above-mentioned drop behaviors, as well as the current limited drop pool.
- To check their drop rate, please refer to KcNav or PoiDB.
- Tips
- 4 OASW (with 3 strongs) is the absolute minimum requirement to stabilize the route. Going less than 4 will start introducing more retreat rates.
- A "strong OASW" is defined as a setup utilizing ASW Synergy (Small Sonar + Depth Charge). For Hyuuga Kai Ni, Helicopter + Zuiun (Kai Ni) + Sonar will also work.
- It is important to keep in mind that most retreats here are due to submarines. Especially at HQ 120 where 7-4 is mutated into its last scaling stage, where node J always has 3 So-Class Flagship, the boss gains more armor, and the boss node in LD always have a So-Class Flagship as well, making farming more difficult if lacking enough strong OASW.
- CVE should be either Zuihou or Ryuuhou for OASW. While it is not as strong as the strong OASW setup above, it can still sink some weaker submarines on the way.
- An AACI is recommended to disable the boss and pass node E on the way. There are some comp combinations to pick depending on who is on AACI duty (these comp's clear rates generally do not differ much).
- For Atlanta, the 3 DD can go TCI (works better for 4-slot DD and Shigure Kai Ni/San with a RE, as they can keep their strong OASW setup on top of it).
- For Maya Kai Ni, same idea as above, but Maya now can bring night scout to increase night accuracy for the whole fleet.
- For DD such as Fletcher, or better Hatsuzuki Kai Ni (as she can have a strong OASW+AACI setup), the CL can be Yahagi Kai Ni B for opening torpedo, or CA(V) like Mogami Kai Ni Toku for Night Zuiun CI.
- Hyuuga Kai Ni should not have the usual 2 guns setup as it does not work well there, reducing the clear rate. It is better to give her 2 fighters to carry air power, along with 3 other equipment that can deal with submarines as mentioned above.
- For LBAS, just use 4 fighters that will never be pulled out of this LBAS and never resupplied, as at some point, their slots will never go below 3, which can be kept sortieing to keep the cost cheap.
- In this map, target node E and the boss node for the best efficiency.
