Do you know the meaning of "Ooshio"? It's a word that describes the moon's gravity pulling waves closer. That means it's a word that involves the moon.[2]
大潮の意味知ってる?月の引力が波を引き寄せることなんだよ。ようするに月があるってことなんだよ。

In-Game Tips

While Ooshio does not share any dominating stats in her Kai Ni remodel, she makes up for this by having a Daihatsu as stock equipment upon upgrade to Kai Ni. While the cost of earning a Daihatsu from Ooshio is rather expensive (as it costs a blueprint to upgrade her to Kai Ni), since she's relatively common and requires a moderate level to earn her Kai Ni, you may save a decent amount of resources if you consider grinding Ooshio up to Kai Ni in order to earn Daihatsu.

While it is debatable, admirals who have a hard time earning Akitsumaru can also opt to use Ooshio or Abukuma for farming for Daihatsu, as that can be less of a strain on your resources.

Outside of this, Ooshio makes for a decent surface combat destroyer in general and can also double as a ship that can be used for Amphibious Warfare Combat since she can be armed with militarized Daihatsu or the Ka-Mi Tank.

When not in for battle, she is one of the few ships that can utilize Daihatsu to help gain extra resources via Expeditions.

Trivia

  • Sunk February 20, 1943 by the USS Albacore.
  • Her name means "spring tide" (not the tide during the spring season, but the extreme tides that occur twice a month at the new and full moon).
  • She is required by quests A31 and B20.
