Those tabs correspond to the ones seen in the Composition menu.

Ships included in this tab: "Fast Battleships" (FBB), "Battleships" (BB), "Aviation Battleships" (BBV).

Type Abbreviation Gameplay Notes Base Stats
戦艦 Battleships BB Battleships (BB) notably utilize   Large Caliber Main Guns,  Recon Seaplane Recons, and   AP Shells. They:
Fast Battleships FBB Fast Battleships (FBB) are BBs with higher speed.
  • They can be placed in the Escort of a Combined Fleet regardless of their speed.
航空戦艦 Aviation Battleships 航戦 BBV Fast Battleships (FBB) are BBs capable of using  Bomber Seaplane Bombers and   Seaplane Fighters. They:
  • BC is for Battle Cruisers, only seen in the Composition menu's filtering tabs, mostly referring to the Kongou-class.

Ships included in this tab: "Standard Aircraft Carriers" (CV), "Armored Aircraft Carriers" (CVB), and "Light Aircraft Carriers" (CVL).

正規空母 Standard Aircraft Carrier 空母 CV Mainly fight during the Aerial Combat. Cannot attack during Night Battle without the right equipment. Must equip Dive Bombers and/or Torpedo Bombers to be able to carry any attack.
装甲空母 Armored Aircraft Carrier 装母 CVB Armored Carriers (CVB) are CV with the exceptions of being able to launch planes even when being moderately damaged (中破).
軽空母 Light Aircraft Carrier 軽母 CVL Weaker than standard carriers and not always "fast", but capable of attacking submarines and are more permissive routing-wise.
  • Light Aircraft Carriers & Standard Aircraft Carriers are termed 正規空母, or Fleet Carriers, to distinguish them from "Escort Carriers" or other carrier types. This term most often refers only to Standard Aircraft Carriers.

Escort Carriers CVE Escort Carriers (CVE) are CVL with a base ASW stat. They are:
Night Carriers CVN Night Carriers (CVN) are CV/CVL capable of Carrier Night Air Attacks without needing a   NOAP

重巡洋艦 Heavy Cruiser 重巡 CA Stronger in surface combat than light cruisers at the expense of ASW capacity, utilizing Medium Caliber Guns and Torpedoes.
航空巡洋艦 Aviation Cruiser 航巡 CAV CA capable of using most Seaplanes, participating in Aerial Combat, and with ASW capacities.

軽巡洋艦 Light Cruiser 軽巡 CL Very flexible. Utilizes   Medium Caliber Main Guns, Torpedoes, ASW, & Artillery Spotting.
重雷装巡洋艦 Torpedo Cruiser 雷巡 CLT Torpedo-focused cruisers, having the strongest "night attack power" in the game. Can equip Midget Submarines to enable Opening Torpedo Salvo.
練習巡洋艦 Training Cruisers 練巡 CT Weaker cruisers, mainly used to increase experience gained in PVP. Despite being CLs by several metrics, they are mostly considered as Auxiliaries.

Type Abbreviation Gameplay Notes Base Stats
駆逐艦 Destroyers 駆逐 DD Versatile ships with high torpedo, ASW, and evasion stats, do the detriment of armor and firepower, while having low resource consumption and the most permissive routings. They shine best in night battles with their special Cut-ins.

海防艦 Coastal Defense Ships 海防 DE Slow and weak ASW-focused ships, that can OASW with only 60 ASW.

潜水艦 Submarines SS Limited to both torpedo phases and Night Battles. Only vulnerable to ASW.

水上機母艦 Seaplane Tenders 水母 AV Seaplane Tenders (AV) notably utilize  Recon/ Bomber/  seaplane Recons/Bombers/Fighters, as well as   Small Caliber Main Guns and  Minisub Midget Submarines, participating in most Combat stages, given the correct setup.
給油艦 Fleet Oilers 補給 AO Fleet Oilers (AO) can refuel ships mid-sortie using   Underway Replenishment .
潜水母艦 Submarine Tenders 潜母艦 AS Are very weak, but can perform a powerful special attack with submarines and has some special routings (notably on 6-1).
揚陸艦 Amphibious Assault Ships 揚陸 LHA Amphibious Assault Ships (LHA) are mostly used for an Anti-Installation role.
  • They can notably craft DLC.
工作艦 Repair Ships AR Akashi unlocks unique repair mechanics and is required to unlock the "Akashi's Improvement Arsenal" to improve equipment.

Notes
  • Some ships have unic "type names", being derivated from other regular types. Those names usually do not have any effect gameplay-wise.
  • Even so several types of ships are very similar (FBB/BB/BBV, CV/CVL, CA/CAV, & CL/CLT/CT), they nonetheless are different types than can not always be interchanged.
    • So far, the following types are fully interchangeable regarding Routing, Expeditions, and Quests requirement:
    • CV & CVB,
    • SS & SSV.
