Overview

Improvement is a decisive factor of the possibility to slay the boss. The most improvements increase damage and accuracy; some improvements are purely functional, but it's almost impossible to beat hard events without them.

General rule: Improve the equipments with the highest marginal utility(i. e. how much can you gain by one screw) first. But the gain of improvement is not easy to analyse, and this rule ignored the equipment/devmat cost of improvements. And again, the recommendation of improvements is very controversial. The beginners should only focus the equipments, whose value is appreciated by the consensus; after you've done all the basic equipments, you can follow your own strategy and planning.

Without them, it's almost impossible to clear some maps. The beginners should focus on these equipments.

Anti-installation

Even Easy and Casual event maps need some basic anti-installation equipments.

Daihatsu Landing Craft (Type 89 Medium Tank & Landing Force). The beginners should have at least 2 of them to clear easy~medium event maps and 6-4. Max them if possible, since every star contributes to the damage bonus against installations (especially Supply Depot Princess) . A common set against the supply depot is Daihatsu-class Landing Craft (Type 89 Medium Tanks & Marines), Type 2 Ka-Mi Tank and WG42 (Wurfgerät 42).

People who wish to challenge Hard event can make 4 of type 89 tanks. In the recent events 4800-HP variant of Supply Depot Princess was implemented. The ideal set against her is one Type 2 Ka-Mi Tank and two type 89 tanks.

Type 2 Ka-Mi Tank. You can obtain one by quest. Then manually craft two or three of them. Again, max them if possible to maximize anti-installation damage.

Carrier based aircraft

Type 0 Fighter Model 21. Max two of them. Then convert them along two questlines(improvement stars are inherited in each step of conversion, a feature which only exist in some quests) to get the best obtainable fighterType 0 Fighter Model 53 (Iwamoto Squadron) and the best obtainable fighter-bomber Zero Fighter Type 62 (Fighter-bomber/Iwai Squadron) with +max.

If you have no land based fighter with combat radius 7, you can additionally max one or two of them in order to use as land based fighters.

Type 99 Dive Bomber (Egusa Squadron). Max it before conversion, since the stars are inherited.

Type 97 Torpedo Bomber (Tomonaga Squadron). Max it before conversion, since the stars are inherited.

Land based aircraft

Type 2 Two-seat Fighter Toryuu Model C(controversial). It's possible that this aircraft has the same effect of rocket interceptors, and this theory will be proven in the next event. If true, the beginners should craft one along with one rocket interceptor which is obtainable by Kaga's quest.

Seaplane

Type 2 Seaplane Fighter Kai: The beginners should have at least 4 of any type of seaplane fighters. You can get some of them by quests, and craft some of them(or farm Pola). People aim at Hard events should have 8.

Controversial

Prototype Keiun (Carrier-based Reconnaissance Model): The value of jets is very controversial. You can invest in them if you think jets can improve the damage of your carriers.

Do 17 Z-2: German missile bomber which is likely to have bonus in event maps in Europe. High damage against installations. Bonus against destroyers. But the range is only 4...

High

The most players appreciate their value; The improvement can provide higher damage, and the equipments are very often used/the equipment is not often used but can be a bottleneck in certain maps.

You can improve them, and improving is beneficial; But the cost is not proportional to the benefits. Not suitable for beginners.
