"SOund Navigation And Ranging"; weapons used to such an end are called sonars. Through observing sound waves underwater, they can detect anomalies like submarines. They function either "actively", through producing sound and observing the echoes produced; or "passively", by picking up whatever sounds are produced natively.
When equipped alongside one or more depth charges, the ship in question receives a 15% boost in ASW output.
