I'm Yuudachi, the fourth ship of the Shiratsuyu class. I worked really hard during the Third Battle of the Solomons, didn't I poi? By the way, why am I so scared by the term "Ironbottom Sound?" | Yuudachi led the battle line to bombard Guadalcanal on 12 November; she took a lot of damage and Samidare rescued most of her crew. USS Portland later sank her off Savo Island - right in the "Ironbottom Sound".
About her verbal tic 'ぽい' (poi), this is added onto the end of a word to signify a comparison or resemblance rather than the 'valley girl' version of like, which is more like a verbal comma.

えーっと…放置っぽい? あたしじゃ、不足っぽい!? もっともっと鍛えなきゃ! | Err.. Am I being neglected poi? Am I still insufficient poi?! Then I'll have to train more! | Some of Yuudachi's quotes reflect an urgency to "get better" or to improve her abilities. Whilst most of these are in her previous forms, Yuudachi Kai Ni retains this sense of urgency which is reflected in her quotes.

The sail is visible on the second remodel art.

Character
Seiyuu: Yumi Tanibe
Artist: Kujou Itiso (玖条イチソ)
Appearance
Yuudachi wears a black seirafuku shared with the first four ship girls of her class. She has straight long blonde hair with a hair ribbon on top, as well as green eyes.
2nd Upgrade
Yuudachi's second remodel reflects her accomplishments in the Guadalcanal Campaign, where she assisted in sinking two destroyers and later damaged a cruiser before being sunk herself.
Her hair becomes messy and gains a hair clip and a reddish tint. Her eyes are now red and her clothes become more ornate. Furthermore, she has the potential to outgun most of the Heavy Cruisers. Her artist tweeted that the "flaps" on her hair was to reflect her "lunatic hound (狂犬)"-like history during her final battle. Compared with Shigure. Yuudachi also gains a sail with a white flag attached to it.
Original ship
- Sunk 13 November 1942 off Savo Island (09°14′S 159°52′E).
- The wreck was discovered in 1992 by Dr. Robert Ballard.
- Claimed assisted kills on USS Gregory and USS Little.
- Fourth of ten Shiratsuyu class destroyers.
- Yuudachi was in fact sank by enemy forces (USS Portland) despite failed attempts to scuttle her.
In-game Tips
Yuudachi is one of the few destroyers that can be fully remodeled at an early level making her one of the first ships admirals will likely upgrade to Kai Ni. In turn she also turns out to be one of the early ships that many players will likely resort to considering useful for many situations in battle. Due to her high firepower, Yuudachi is strong enough to engage in battle and possible take down Light Cruisers and on rarer occasions Ri-class Heavy Cruisers. Because of this, she is often considered resourceful for battle.
Thanks for her high firepower and torpedo strength she can also be very strong in night battle. While she can be used for torpedo cut-ins (assuming you build up her luck), it is commonly preferred to keep her armed for double attacks since there are other ships that can more reliably perform torpedo cut-ins.
She can also be considered resourceful for farming 12.7cm Twin Mount Type-B Kai 2s if you need to collect them for modifications or to simply arm ships with better guns since she is very common and requires a low level to be fully upgraded.
Appearances in derivative works
- Yuudachi appears in the anime adaption of Kantai Collection as a part of Torpedo Squad 3, alongside the Sendai sisters and Mutsuki. She helps welcome Fubuki to shared quarters with Mutsuki.
Trivia
- Her name means "sudden evening shower".
- Occasionally, she will end her sentences with "Poi".
- Received her Kai Ni on October 16, 2013
- Yuudachi's white sail was incorrectly seen as a flag of surrender, a fact that angered the Americans when she kept on fighting despite raising it. This sail can be seen in her K2 artwork, and reflects the significance. This eventually led to Yuudachi being sunk by USS Portland when she actually surrendered. The captain of the USS Portland was quoted to issue the order of "Sink the S.O.B" to which the gunnery officer obeyed, sinking the disabled (but evacuated) remnants of Yuudachi.
