Hello everyone and welcome to the 2023 Early Spring Event Evalution!

Thank you all for participating and sharing!

The survey closed on 16:00 CEST 08.05.2023. A total of 359 people sent in replies, with the majority (62%) sourcing it from various discord server announcements, while the rest got it from reddit (31%) and other sources.

Event Overview

(1/5) While more than 85% of survey participants cleared the event, there has been a significant amount of people who have not reached their own set goals for this event (36%). The official clear rate this Event was said to be 73% this event, so keep a surveybase with higher engagement than the regular playerbase in mind when reading this evaluation.
(2/5)Mirroring official clear rates the most commonly picked difficulty on all maps was hard except for E2. E2 seemed to be the map that would have the biggest relative increase of people not finishing the event.
(3/5)The rewards were mostly perceived as adequate, except for E2 being perceived as too much effort for them. Furthermore, certain dissatifaction was visible on E6 too.
(4/5)Friend FLeets have been used by 83% of players, most noteably starting from E2. Since MO Friend Fleets arrived before EO Friend Fleets this event a better question may have been on how many maps FFs got used, rather than starting from which map.
(5/5)The event would accrue a rating of 5.6, putting it between the Hishimochi Event (4.7) and Fall/Winter 2020 (5.8)

Newcomer Review

(1/3) Out of the new girls in the Event, it aws a close race for Heywood L. Edwards and Tuscaloosa in terms of popularity. With the exception of Noumi the rest was quite closesly grouped together at similar popularity.
(2/3) When it came to assessing the usefulness in upcoming content, Momochi as an anti-installation specialist would take the first spot, followed up by HLE and her Fletcher-Class features.
(3/3) As usual, the guaranteed reward ships have been acquired by most survey participants. In terms of ships that needed to be dropped, the acquisition rate hovered around 70%

(1/1) A close race between the Heavy Cruiser Princess and The Remodeled Cargo Princess. The final boss of this event would not enjoy the same popularity as her goons however.

(Touch) Girls und Submarine Combat

(1/4) Most Players would be utilizing Yamato-Class-Special Attacks on E2P3, regardless of difficulty
(2/4) On E5P3 Nagato-Class use would be more significant than Yamato-Class, except for Hard Mode players who would be more likely to deploy a (duplicate) Yamato-Class on this map. This was not specifically asked for, but the data has been obtained by checking for Yamato-Class use on both E2P3 and E5P3 on medium and above.
(3/4) Most survey participants would opt to send their LBAS to the boss on E2P3
(4/4) While the fast fleet with submarines would be the most popular way to clear E6P4 overall, hard mode players were more inclined to go superheavy.

I think Heywood is very cute. In terms of maps, the shared tags simplified planning. What did you hate about the Event? Alongside the utter failure that is E2, the most major problem I had with this event was its schedule. It's been both too long in total and also too short to be reasonably playable due to E2 being this hard this early in the event and FF releasing so late. What else do you have to say? I've seen a lot of what if discussion on how to fix this event. Unfortunately I will only be able to rate it on my personal experience playing it.

Even though the long event duration is annoying, it was useful this time otherwise I would not have finished the event because of a rather long vacation during the event. I hope that the next event will be shorter in duration and with fewer maps as well as with a better passing rate to the boss node. All of the last events have been far too time consuming.

Overlapping historical bonuses between gauges that left dupeless players with half the theoretical clear rate in E2 (P1 in particular) as historic evasion was critical to a reasonable pass rate. 2. Giving Mogami and Yahagi bonuses when they are already the best choices for their class, entirely obsoleting any other choice. 3. hotel dupe spam doubling clear rates. 4. Ranker missiles (Ki/Fritz/Hiryuu) being severely overtuned compared to any other LBA (hashi? gitfukt) What else do you have to say? Can I say fuck Tanaka? Praise be to the sim cult and sim gods for finding optimal comps even if people hate using optimal comps and use stupid shit!!! I cant give the event a 1 because Heywood and also it would indicate a skill issue. Trolling aside, I find the event design went in a very problematic direction and I hope it does not continue this way. Full sparkles and historic evasion with goddess and still having a 70-80% retreat rate is not fun in any way

Utterly horrible and caused issues for multiple difficulties/types of players. Also, design to clear by I-20x subs is a bad choice - too reliant upon players having those two ships, and farming E-3 isn't much of an alternative given costs and low drop rate. Yamato-touch is being overused as well. Third event in a row for that. This is a shocking bad event given all the time the devs had to come up with it. Lastly, the long delays for map releases has to go.

Nice slow event where I was able to take my time clearing. Got a chance to get Brooklyn after missing her from the previous event. What did you hate about the Event? Pre-boss pass rate were abysmal on most maps. They seriously were the true boss. Most LD, I managed to get the kill in a few tries if I ever got there. What else do you have to say? I know alot of people are going to hate on the sub/air nodes but at least you could somewhat do something about them. Compared to the other terrible pre-boss nodes, they were more of a minor annoyance. And thank god, I duped Yamato and Musashi before this event. I was able to make steady progress from the beginning of the event without worrying too much about shiplocks cuz of them.

There was a nice variety of fleet types, I didn’t feel like I was always using the same type of fleet (Single, Combineds, Striking) over and over throughout each map. What did you hate about the Event? E2 was rough. As a daily player who doesn’t pay much mind to the meta, I really had to bust my ass to be able to be able to clear it. And even then I only cleared thanks to godly FF luck. Another issue was the LBAS AS requirements for some debuffs, those felt pretty rough to get sometimes (especially E2, which I physically couldn’t do) What else do you have to say?

The best part of this event was definitely the submarine historical bonuses! I loved being able to actually use submarines, even if the bonuses were a little over-the-top... What did you hate about the Event? I did not like how necessary the submarines felt to clear. The gap in damage between the two historical subs and any other submarines was way too much. I wish I coulda used my favorite submarines instead of two specific subs that I happened to have leveled. What else do you have to say? I locked zero heavy cruisers this event other than Pola and Zara... the state of Heavy Cruisers in Kantai Collection is kinda sad to see.

Really like the event BGM most of all. The design for E6 was fun and different, and most of all Momochi is a really fun and intersting addition! The pacing was fine for non-RTA and the event length was comfortable, and ship rewards/drops were also pretty good. What did you hate about the Event? Release issues, devs trying to chew more than they can bite created the problems we have with E2, they should know better their output at this point; when they realised they couldn't release E3 in time they should've use that time to polish E2 instead of going desperate on E3 and end up not even pushing it. Other than that, it feels like whoever designed the MO just winged it. Lastly, extremely crucial ships such as 201 and 203 SHOULD be communicated as such beforehand, not when RTA gets there. What else do you have to say? I don't think I hate anything about this event. I don't like the way LBAS is being handled lately, we need more bases readily available more early into the event. 3 bases only for last 10% of the event is really tight for doing stuff like air defense and unlocks and covering multiple issue nodes like in E2, which would be much more manageable with 2 sortie bases. The way the new node outright requires LBAS sweeps to make it tolerable is I guess what they decided to go for once they figured nowadays everyone was just facetanking SS Princess. I also dislike how basically every boss this event is fought under AP/AD/AI (or really discouraged to go for AS), which makes things kinda stressful especially when you need to rely on carriers for damage. The Princess spam was somewhat worse this event which forces touch mechanic on most of the maps.

I felt sorry for the new or casual player who stuck on E2 till the end. This event were too long in my opinion, 2+ months but with a valid reason. I guess devs know players would get stuck in the MO for too long so they decided to delay EO release and also extended the event until 1st of May. Decent drops, ships and rewards but airstrike node mechanic definitely not a mechanic I would enjoy in next event. If it need to stay, just limit the airstrike potential of the Nu-class. Having 2 Nu-class in the sub node, unkillable makes the event extremely hard especially for new players. Please drop this mechanic

I liked the new girls, especially Heywood and Momochi. The phase with 2nd torp fleet except for E2P1 were quite fun. It was great to see the return of Ne FS. Musics were awesome. FFs were powerful. It was fun to use sentaka for final boss. What did you hate about the Event? The ASS prenodes, the Nu are really too strong and unless silenced they are likely destroying your fleet. The whole E2, the difficulty of that map was stupidly hard. E3P3 was painful with the Ne kai prenode. The fact that almost all bosses require a special touch, which made this event very expensive. Dupes almost mandatory for a full hard clear What else do you have to say? The ASS prenodes are a bad design, Nus are invincible, not affect by formation and destroy your ships when they hit. The only way to protect from that is wiping all their slots, which is hard even with the best AACI. With a single fleet it's fine because you can still go vangurad, but on a combined fleet it's getting ridiculous with 1 shelling on the escort and 2 on the main fleet. The difficulty of E2 makes no sense at all, like prenodes with 4 Na balls on line ahead with opening torp, ASS prenode with 2 Nu B FS with a combined fleet, Ne kai on most prenodes, E2P1 LD and E2P3 LD with victorious abyssal, the boss that have the highest armor (392 armor), along with a very strong escort (CV Hime B, 2 BB Hime, Nu FS, Na ball with opening torp) and only 1 base sortie. One of the debuff step (getting S rank with lbas) was impossible if you didn't have 3 HA interceptors and good fighter which is only possible if you started playing at least in 2019. Having a early map like that is frustating, this map should have been on EOs. Otherwise except E3P3 that was quite painful, the rest of the event was good. EOs maps were more fun and easy than MO maps. I would rate E1 : 6/10, E2 : 1/10, E3 : 4/10, E4 : 7/10, E5 : 8/10, E6 : 8/10

Firstly, the new WG nodes have 0 counters when said CVLs seems to have enough planes to kill our girls despite the normal versions of these ships didn't have this killing potential. E2 was really dirty in putting a very armoured boss with very minimal debuffs. Also, Easy and Casual couldn't complete the debuffs given how you needed 2 HA interceptors in order to do said AS stage. Unless there is a drastic change, all those newbies are gone. Don't get me started on the drops. They fucking suck. What else do you have to say? Honestly, this was the first event that I actually considered quitting after finishing. Drop rates had become very tight with previous events having a plethora of drops to make up for what could be a shit event. Here, we have people doing over 100 runs for a fucking Yuugure which is no means an exclusive ship. I mean, really? Tanaka also went fucking overboard with the massive difficulty spike in where Medium = Hard. There were times where I was salty as fuck due to the requirements of certain nodes.

Given that rare ships drop alongside common ships, it became frustrating and lead to my eventual burnout. For example, Nisshin took me 158 runs of E3 which was less than fun. It was not fun at all and deserves to be thrown in the garbage. It was terrible optics for the game's 10th anniversary, especially when tryhard players voiced their frustration. E-2 was especially broken; whoever designed that map deserves to be fired. The zombie CVL nodes should never reappear in any content ever again because of how broken and unfair they were. The difficulty progression of this event was also completely nonsensical, with E-2 acting like a final map and star difficulty ratings jumping all over the place with no rhyme or reason. The rewards in general were also extremely underwhelming compared to the effort required to get them across all difficulties. It is unclear if the Landing Forces provide any real benefit over traditional Landing Crafts, especially since Landing Forces are exclusive to one specific shipgirl who has paper-thin armor and next to no combat ability outside of anti-installation combat (if she manages to survive to any boss node). Overall, this event was a complete disaster that tarnished the 10th anniversary. I want the developers to be ashamed for making this atrocious and broken event!

Good farming spots I guess. Most of the maps were not too long, so long as you don't get blocked on a certain boss. Subs were pretty useful this event penis1. No TP phases felt too long. Having no viable spot to train multiple air bases for the first few maps was a bit annoying. What else do you have to say? I don't if it's a sign that I'm slowly getting bored of this game but this event felt very monotone to me. Maybe the fact that I cleared every LD in under 10 runs didn't help either penis1. I am not very pleased with how having dupes makes event so much easier. At least getting them seems easier nowadays with the increased number of obtainable medals per month.

For the first time in the now 8 years I have played I have cleared a event with a average difficulty higher then Easy ( I went E1H-E2E/C-E3N-E4H-E5N-E6N) and spent around 400 to 500 hours playing Kancolle in the 2 months the event was live. That said, the last 2 months were spent more on grinding for the event maps then the in the event maps themselves. (grinding Shoukaku to Kai 2 for Iwamoto and Iwai Squadrons. Kaga to Kai 2 for Rocket Interceptor and night strike carrier. I-201 and I-203 to Kai for E-5 and E-6 Phases 3 and 4. and Heywood L. Edwards to Kai for E-5 and E-6 to name a few ships I Leveled during this event.) Overall I say that this event was one of the biggest steps forward my fleet has ever had from event to event and I am hoping to build on this going forward as I also got my first ever ranking rewards T-500 in both March and April. this did however end up costing around $570 USD over the entire event. -CodRaven1728 On Kancolle and Discord.

To be fair, I actually found this event pretty decent. It is just marred by the insane diffculty spike of E-2 and the horrible Airstrike Ssupported Submarine (ASS) nodes. I actually did better in this event compared to the previous two events, where I had to complete the finals map on Easy and even Casual difficulty. E-2 felt like it wasn't play-tested properly. And honestly it feels like one of hardest map of the event, EOs included. E-2 on Easy feels harder than E-3 on Medium. This map would have been a lot easier if we got an extra LBAS instead of just 1. The new ASS nodes just feels unfair. The CVLs can easily taiha your capitals ships from full hp if you get an unlucky roll, and each can attack 1-2 times (or even 3 times if using a Combined Fleet with BBs), and there is no counterplay. The only thing you can do is bring a strong AACI and and try to get AS to deplane them completely, because they can still taiha even if some bombers survive. These nodes basically force you to use an LBAS on them just to get a decent pass rate. They aren't too bad in the later maps since you got more LBAS, but in E-2, forcing you to use your sole LBAS on them is asking for a lot. Looking at other's comments I guess there is a big difficulty spike between Medium and Hard on E-3 and E-6, because I found E-3 on Medium to be pretty easy. Didn't have any difficulty on E-3, in fact I beat the final phase LD on the first try without debuff. Also got Heywood while clearing, so perhaps I got lucky. E-6 was a long slog, but not particularly difficult. I actually had more diffculty clearing E-6P3 than the final boss (I kept on having bad RNG and my nuke ships would either keep getting sniped or refused to attack SDH). P4 went smoothly with a Yamiowa fast fleet plus I-203. Friend Fleet (Langley my beloved) actually killed the boss in P4 LD. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get Yuugure. She is one shy girl. Spent a week or so farming E5 and she refused to drop despite dozens of easy S ranks. Got multiple dupes, including 2 Saratogas and a dupe Noumi, plus dupes of Houston, Gamby, multiple Cranes, and about half a dozen Yamakazes. Did the devs input the wrong drop rate for Yuugure and gave it to Yamakaze instead?
