- Ooi was part of the game's official launch when the game was released in April 23rd, 2013.
- When KanColle's site was launched on DMM bach in February 28th, 2013, players who per-registered before the game's official release received Ooi as a bonus ship along with thier starting ship when they began playing.
- After being remodeled into torpedo cruisers, Ooi, Kitakami, & Kiso can utilize the Type A Kou-hyouteki to attack during the opening torpedo phase.
- She is named after the "Ōi river" in Shizuoka prefecture, Japan.
- It literally means Big Well.
