複葉の九六艦爆から一新、単葉の近代的な艦上爆撃機として登場した「九九艦爆」。<br>
固定脚の低速機ではありましたが、「九七艦攻」と共に初期の機動部隊の攻撃隊戦力の中核を担いました。<br>
後期改良機の二二型ではエンジンを換装、主に速度などの性能向上を図ります。<br>
既に旧式であることは否めませんが、本艦爆隊は、熟練搭乗員で構成された精鋭九九艦爆隊です。
The Type 99 was introduced as a modern monoplane replacement for the Type 96 biplane.<br>
Although it was a slow aircraft with fixed landing gear, it formed the core of the attack squadrons along with the Type 97 in the early days of the carrier task forces.<br>
In its upgrade to the Model 22 in the latter stages of the war, it's engine was replaced to improve speed.<br>
It is undeniably obsolete, but this elite Type 99 squadron is crewed by skilled pilots.
