Type A ko-hyoteki is a unique weapon that has two torpedoes and that approaches and attacks enemy ships to support open-sea warfares.

The Type A Ko-hyoteki which means "Target 'A', Type 'A'", which the name was assigned as a ruse: If their design was prematurely discovered by Japan's foes, the Japanese Navy could insist that the vessels were battle practice targets. They were also called "Tubes" (筒 Tou) or "Target" (的 Teki, abbreviation of 'Hyōteki') and other slang names.<br>
