Battle of the Surigao Strait was conducted on the night of '''October 24th, 1944''' by the '''Nishimura Fleet''' and '''Shima Fleet''' in an attempt to attack the US forces invading the Island of Leyte at the dawn. However, due to the US's anticipation of incoming forces that were planning to attack they were able set up an ambush which would catch Nishimura's Fleet off guard getting caught "Crossing the T" and would allow the US's 7th Fleet to launch a devistating attack that would pretty much destroy the entire fleet (outside of Shigure who barely survived) and forcing Shima's fleet to retreat.
