敵の航空攻撃から艦艇や施設を守るために運用する防空用気球です。<br>高速で艦隊運動中の艦艇では使用できませんが、着上陸戦闘時の艦艇や、敵の空襲などから陸上施設等を守るために、局地的な戦域で一定の効果を発揮します。<br>ノルマンディー上陸作戦などでも多数使用されました。<br>運用が難しく効果も限定的であるため、徐々に姿を消していきます。
