Operation NS was a campaign in which Japan attempted to establish airfields along Guadacanal.

Operation NS was a campaign in which Japan attempted to establish airfields in the southern Solomon Islands, including a seaplane base on Tulagi and an airfield on neighboring Guadalcanal.

One of these airfields was captured by the Americans and renamed ''Henderson Field''.

On August 7 the Allies launched [[:wikipedia:Guadalcanal Campaign|Operation Watchtower]] with the intent on capturing these airfields; the airfield on Guadalcanal quickly fell and was renamed ''Henderson Field''.

Japan then attempted to capture Henderson field by engaging in several naval battles.

The IJA was lax in their response at first, believing this to be only a reconnaissance in force; Admiral Yamato was not nearly as lax. He sent numerous naval forces to challenge the American's sea presence in the region, thus beginning a running siege that would last for five months, with the Americans owning the seas by day and the IJN ferrying in troops under the cover of darkness.

The event will likely emphasize fighting land installations and air attacks.
