The "sword" Murakumo supposedly wears is the other end of her spear. There is also no (cited) relation to the Kusanagi no Tsurugi apart from her name, which doesn't imply a connection any more than the word "Musashi" references Musashi Miyamoto.

* The sword on her back is a nod to the "Ame no Murakumo no Tsurugi" (or "The Sword of the Gathering Clouds of Heaven" in English), more commonly known today as "Kusanagi no Tsurugi" (or the "Grass-cutting Sword" in English), one of the three pieces of the Imperial Regalia of Japan - akin to the Crown Jewels of the UK.
