''A prototype twin-engine fighter developed using the Imperial Japanese Army's Type 2 two-seat fighter "Toryuu" as a base.<br>The performance of the officially adopted Toryuu (Ki-45 Kai) was further improved with the removal of the rear seat, better engines, and more firepower.
