*** "A" can mean several things depending on the ship girl. E.g. Shoukaku and Zuikaku's "A" means "Armoured".

** Some ship girls will be renamed.

*** Currently only Kongou-class ships ({{ShipLink|Kongou}} and {{ShipLink|Hiei}} as of January 2021) have a "C" remodel and they are night battle focused.

*** "D" means ASW speciality, but it can also overlap with "Toku" to an extent (for example {{ShipLink|Yamakaze Kai Ni D}} can equip {{EquipmentLink|Soukoutei (Armored Boat Class)}}, but her maximum ASW is in fact lower than her Kai Ni).

*** "Toku" means equipping transportation facilities and/or midget submarine.
