I have studied the Imperial Japanese Navy since 1998, and have several large files (approaching nearly 5,300 pages) containing personnel records of the various officers for the fleet, including a full list of all Naval Academy graduates, and am currently working on completing the lists for the graduates of the Engineering and Paymaster Academies.
I have been a fan of Kantai Collection since discovering the anime, and enjoy reading fanfiction based on the characters.
My KanColle fanfic recommendations:
1) Harry and the Shipgirls (Harry Potter / KanColle crossover) by Harry Leferts - currently ongoing; available for reading on SpaceBattles or Sufficient Velocity
2) Belated Battleship by Obsessed Nuker - sadly abandoned, but still available for reading on fanfiction.net
3) Things Involving Shipgirls That Are No Longer Allowed by CV12Hornet - completed, but there are two further sequels; all are available for reading on fanfiction.net
4) Gaijin Teitoku by ijnfleetadmiral - completed; sequel currently on long-term hiatus (yes, it's my own fanfic); available for reading on fanfiction.net. (Also: I would gladly answer any questions you might have about it.)
