独自開発された「特殊潜航艇」、その後期改良型のさらなる発展型です。従来の甲標的を大型化、航続距離や通信能力を強化、搭乗員も5名に拡張、艇首に45cm魚雷発射管2基を備えるミニ潜水艦に近づいた強化発展型甲標的です。本来はその戦局から艦上での運用を前提の設計でしたが、改良型の本艇は同運用に対応した水上艦での積極運用が可能です。

This was an independently developed "Special Submarine" that was an improvement over the previous late-model.<br>
It is an enlarged version of the Type-A Midget Submarine with increased cruising range and communications capability. With the crew count increased to 5 members and 2 bow-mounted 45cm torpedo tubes, this is closer to a mini-submarine than an improved midget submarine.<br>
It was originally designed to be operated from a ship, but this improved model can operate independently to support other ships.
