The "Shiden Kai" were the ace-in-the-holes of the mainland's air defences. The majority were deployed to the 343rd Air Group.<br>
The mighty Shiden Kai squadron, the 407th Fighter Squadron, was a squadron from that air group that was deployed to Matsuyama in Shikoku.<br>
These elite pilots led by the young air force commander Captain Hayashi sortied to intercept aircraft from enemy carrier groups and B-29 bombers amidst the deteriorating war situation.
