Her last moment was the Battle of Surigao Strait where Nishimura fleet was T-crossed by USN fleet upon breaching into Leyte Gulf, Fusou took a heavy blow and her hull split into two following the explosion of ammunition storage. The battle is said as one of most miserable casualties among IJN throughout the war.

This comes from a stillborn plan to turn Fuso-class into Aviation Battleship (or into Aircraft Carrier as cited in some Japanese sources. The actual plan was only carried out on the Ise-class) after loss of four aircraft carriers in Midway.
