The general idea of resource management is like running a surplus budget. You increase income and decrease spending.

Obviously there exist a solution where you completely stop sortieing and only does expeditions to stockpile resources; however most people (including the Wiki and myself) will advice against such austerity. To explain this we must understand the actual goal of resource management: '''Stockpiling resources for event use'''. ''If dear viewer your fundamental goal in Kancolle is not to clear events with your utmost ability this article may not be best for you.''

We recall the old meme: ''In order to clear event on Hard you need to obtain equipment that is only given via a Hard clear reward.'' This is true up to some point, but one can always make remedies, however inefficient. It is understood that it will be way harder to clear Hard when compared to fossils (like me). You will need better luck and more dice rolls: Here more resources will help you get through. Everyone must go through such a transition period, once they have collected some more Hard clear equipments, the newer Hard events will become easier.

We conclude the overarching principle in resource management is '''ensuring the growth of our stockpiles without neglecting the growth of our fleet'''.

Abstract

This article is intended to give a preview to my approach of Expeditions and resource management in general.

In my opinion and methods, constructing a set of working expedition fleets requires four step.

1. Assessing Resource situation: one determines what resource he generally needs. E.g. if he intends to go ham on sortie he will need buckets, fuel and ammo; if he wishes to LSC for Yamasushi he must recover more steel etc.

2. Choosing the expeditions to run: once the general resource needs are known, one decides on what expeditions are the most efficient for him. This depends obviously on the required resource type, but also the player's available time and frequency for play. E.g. Exped 21 becomes better than Exped 5 if the player can only log on between 3-hour intervals.

3. Setting comps for the expeditions: This step is in general very easy. Key reminders and checks include use of DEs, using Kamikaze/Mutsuki/Matsu class DDs. Minor min-maxing.

4. Recruiting the Legion: You designate a group of DDs to be "Exped ready". They are sparkled so that one can keep enough sparked ships for GS Exped by shifting ships. Finding enough ships/memorising a simple pattern/training more ships for the job are the main techniques. One might need to fine-tune their expedition comp to make the shifting smoother.

Finally it is very important to actually run the expeditions in order to get the resources. Vague theoretisation does nothing to your fleet. Don't aim to create the perfect setup, use and learn. Find your routine and settle into it.
