Combat Phases
In each node, combat will consist of at least one, up to several Combat Phases. The number of combat phases depends on the node type, with each node type using a different set of combat phases and order. More information on Nodes. Using a Combined Fleet can also swap somme phases during the shelling.
The combat phases are made out of:

Day Battle Breakdown
The Day Battle is the phase where the majority of combat takes place. This article will go more in-depth on the stages that take place in the surface combat.
Although it will be mentioned when the other related battle phases take place, keep in mind that this page will not go more in-depth about it due to the complexity of the mechanics behind them. Instead, check each's own article page.
The Day Battle has the following structure:
- Detection
- Engagement
- Aerial Combat
- Surface Combat
In case neither fleets meet the requirements, the sub-phase will be skipped.
Aerial Combat Breakdown
Aerial Combat is one of the Day Battle intermediary phases. In this phase, allied and enemy fleets indirectly fight each other for aerial dominance and airstrike potential, granting either fleet some substantial advantages in the subsequent combat phases.
Aerial Combat has the following structure:
- LBAS's Jet assault
- Fleet's Jet assault
- Land-Based Aerial Support
- Stage 1 - Battle for Air Superiority
- Stage 2 - Fleet Anti-Air Defense
- Stage 3 - Airstrike
If an LBAS phase happens before the Aerial Combat phase, the enemy fleet state, such as plane slots and Fighter Power used for the subsequent Aerial Combat, is carried over. This can be used to tamper with the Enemy's Aerial Combat initial conditions. For more information, check the LBAS article.
In case neither fleets meet the requirements, the sub-phase will be skipped.

Night Battle Breakdown
When the fleet pursues the enemy into Night Battle (夜戦, yasen), or enters special Nodes such as Night Nodes or Night to Day Nodes, the fleet will fight at night.
The Night Battle has the following structure:
- Friendly Fleet (event only)
- Support Expedition (if the battle starts at night)
- Night Contact and Spotting
- Night Shelling Phase
In case neither fleets meet the requirements, the sub-phase will be skipped.
