In November 20th, 1942, the Japanese destroyer forces lead by Rear Admiral Raizou Tanaka attempted to deliver to the Japanese forces stationed at Guadacanal, however on that night, they intercepted by several American ships that mainly consisted of Cruiser and Destroyers. Even though they  were heavily out numbered, the Japanese forces were able to take down one US cruiser and damage 3 others while the Japanese would end up losing one destroyer in the fight.
