| Note0=Kaga was originally intended to be built as a battle-cruiser, although the construction was halted by Washington treaty in 1921. Kaga was set to be scrapped for metal required to convert Akagi and Amagi from battle-cruisers into carriers. During construction Amagi was damaged beyond repair in the great Kanto Earthquake (1923) and Kaga took its place for conversion.
