Her combat potential is decidedly on the low-end of the heavy cruisers. She does have a niche as a main fleet heavy cruiser if you leverage her fit bonuses with the 8" guns. But even then, she'll fall short of other Kai Ni heavy cruisers with upgraded 20.3 no3.

- ↑ ABDA sent the mentioned cruisers and two more, HMS Exeter and HNLMS Java, to protect Java island - all were lost within days, in the Java Sea or Sunda Strait. USS Houston (CA-30) was succeeded by Cleveland-class USS Houston (CL-81).
- ↑ ABDA (American-British-Dutch-Australian) Command was formed in response to the Japanese invasion of Allied territories. The fleets had not trained together and had different priorities. ABDA effectively ceased to exist within three months.

- The ribbon in her collar is a Navy Presidential Unit Citation
- The white color scheme of Houston's base form reflects the peacetime colors of the US Navy. The darker colors of Houston's Kai form appear to represent USN camouflage Measure 1, the USN's "default" camouflage for the war.
- Houston's survivors, alongside survivors of a battalion of the U.S. Army on Java (the "Lost Battalion"), were captured by the Japanese. The majority were forced into hard labor on the Burma Railway, which is (fictionally) portrayed in The Bridge on the River Kwai
